Pend my "wizz" quiz results - I have a job

First of all I haven't worked in 14 months. Been in dry cleaning for 30 years and was an owner for 20. Sold it - took a bath and lived off the proceeds of the sale and unemployment (thank God for incorporating).

Been hard to find a company to let me switch out of my field.

Today Walmart hired me for a new store they are opening in April.

They were impressed with my prior management experience and other job transferable skills.

Now I'm starting over at 51 but Walmart is supposed to promote from within and I feel I should have no probs with doing that.

Figured that they would put me in clothing or household goods but they floored me when they said................

"We want you, with your expertise in computers to work in Consumer Electronics!!" Kool!!

Pay kind of sucks but hey I'm starting over in life and figure I'll get by.

Hmmmmm ......... You're claiming how many exemptions?

A lot of what got me into consumer electronics came from the knowledge I got here in TechIMO.

Thanks everyone!!

Now just gotta wait for the wizz quiz results and the store opening in about 6 - 8 weeks.

Bill

Hey, that's great news! Congrats! Hope being near all that neat new gear doesn't force you to leave your paycheck with them.

Yeeesh, Bill, that's a mighty interesting road you've traveled! Talk about a career change....

Me, too. There's a lot of it going around...I think maybe the #1 job skill of the 21st Century will turn out as, after all is said and done, the ability to completely re-invent yourself every ten years!

Good luck there, buddy!

You might want to start practicing this now, so you're ready for it on your first day...

--------------------
The WAL-MART Cheer:

Give me a W!
Give me an A!
Give me an L!
Give me a Squiggly!
Give me an M!
Give me an A!
Give me an R!
Give me a T!
What's that spell?
Wal-Mart!
Who's number one?
The Customer!
Always!
---------------------

Good luck to 'ya!

It will be nice, at least for peeps in the computer section..to have someone they can actually ask a question to and get an answer.
I notice walmart carries stuff now like nice agp video cards and wireless routers etc etc. So maybe you will be explaining to people the difference between a PCI and AGP vid card....or "whats the difference between cdrw and cdr?". That sort of stuff.

But probably more like....."do you have the new Hillary Duff cd yet??" lol

Glad to hear the good news, JP

Congrats. Glad to hear that you are now (will be soon) gainfully employed and doing something that you ahev an intrest in.

It is definitely better to be working in a field you enjoy than making the big bucks and hating it every second of the day.

Way to go, Bill. To be honest, I would find it refreshing to meet someone in Wal-Mart that was tech savvy and customer oriented.
