Pure Patriotism!

isnt that bad? to keep everything the same old way? to make no progress because thinking everything's right as it is now?

we have just a few patriotists here, and most of them are neo nazis, they want to keep our contry clean of other "races" they dont want non-swiss people, they make me sick!

other kind of patriotism, votings: most of the people dont even think about voting they just always say NO because they think it's good as it is now. also stupid. keeps our country from growing!

last kind of patriotism, DIEING FOR MY COUNTRY! hurray i love this kind of patriotism, i would give everyone a darwin award for this one! OUCH, just imagine everyone would think like that? lol

patriotism positive way: protecting country, as long as you dont kill others just for prevention
football games! good to keep a country together!

all in all you see that i'm not a big fan of patriotism, now it's your turn to try to convince me!

I'm a big fan of patriotism, just not cheesy patriotism. I think there should be british flags in our main streets, it's not tasteless, and the Americans do it, it looks really cool and it shows who you are and where you are from.

You should be proud of your country, and patriotism is what it is all about. There is a big difference between Fanatiscism (Neo-Nazi's etc.) and Patriotism (Loving your country)

Samuel Johnson

(It was, of course, a noisy show of patriotism, rather than the real thing, that got up Dr. Johnson's nose.)

What is pure patriotism? Or did you mean extreme patriotism?

IMO patriotism has many faces and not all are negative or 'the last refuges of scoundrals'.

Defence of one's nation is the best form of patriotism IMO.

But extreme patriotism in the form of far right-wing movements and opinions that become racist is negative and destructive.

Patriotism: the love for one's country. Any patriot will tell you that voting, being an active voice in government local/federal, and support or service in the military are all important. Of course it can be taken overboard by neo-nazi's and suicidal muslims.

Patriotism in and of itself does not imply any of the thing you listed creatures.

In simplest terms patriotism is a love of your country. You can love your country and welcome new members to your nation. Racism is not related to patriotism. You can have a patriotic Neo-Nazi as well as a patriotic immigrant or one who is patriotic and accepts people entering the nation.

My concerns regarding immigration are not based upon my patriotism per say. I am of course concerned with the negative effects of cultural change caused by mega immigration where you actually start to change the core values and culture and demographic too quickly for people to become members of the nation. 200,000 or 300,000 immigrants entering my nation does not bother me or my patriotism at all. 14,000,000 illegal immigrants creating huge enclaves and communities seperate from the main community is bad for business. In the worst case scenario you actually can dilute the government, and population so far as to create little portions of the country where one has tried to leave.

Patriotism is simply a love of country, and a concern of where it is going.

YOu can be an anti war patriot, or a pro peace through strength, you can be a bigoted, or tollerant patriot.

The definition of patriotism where you live appears to be flawed and the stigma may actually keep good patriots from existing leaving only the negative faces of bigotry and so forth.

But there is nothing wrong with giving you life for your country.

I mean is there anything that you would consider dying for? Would you run into a burning building to save a baby or jump into a situation to save a woman from being raped?

Dying in the name of something, like saving your kids future (in case of hitler) or to stop thousands of your friends and family and country men from being killed can be a very nobel cause. It is kinda sad that you do not feel strongly enough to die for your friends and family.

Now WWII versus Iraq I would be much more likely to put my but on the line for WWII. But none the less there are many reasons I would put my but on the line for the greater good (not with out a fight)

Epi I agree with almost everything you said...

except...

For example: Soldiers of the Coalition forces dying in IRAK are not really dying for their country.... that's what the goverment makes them believe...

but come on.. let's be real....

many are dying for no reason at all....

it's a shame...

They are most certainly dying for their country.

but if you look at my wording I say that I would have to think long and hard before putting my life on the line over iraq.

I think in the iraq case they are not dying so much for their country as for the ungrateful world at the beck and call of their country. A very just cause in and of itself.

I am just not sure I could put my butt on the line for an ungrateful world.
