CDC Knew of Potential Link between Vaccines, Autism

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/health...?storyid=14764

This is criminal I don't care whose administration it happened under.
Heads need to roll for this.

The Centers for Disease Control published a study last fall repudiating any possible link between thimerosal and developmental problems like autism in children. However, First Coast News has obtained non-published documents that show the CDC DID have data supporting such a link-- but kept it from the public.

Documents released through the Freedom of Information Act, detail the transcript of a meeting held in June of 2000 between members of the CDC, the FDA, and representatives from the vaccine industry.

Ryan's doctor, Jeff Bradstreet of Melbourne, is a specialist in autism-related disorders. Using clinical diagnostic testing, he has documented a genetic defect in children that Ryan carries. That defect, says Bradstreet, made him vulnerable to a preservative in his vaccinations.

The preservative is called thimerosal, and it contains mercury, a known neuro-toxin. Until just a few years ago, children who received a full schedule of vaccinations were injected with mercury in amounts far exceeding EPA guidelines. Bradstreet says some children's bodies just can't handle the onslaught of the toxin.

"There are children who don't detox heavy metals well.. the more mercury we expose them to the more problems they're going to have," Bradstreet says.

The growing controversy over thimerosal has contributed to its removal from many childhood vaccines, beginning in the late 1990's. But it is still present in some vaccinations, including virtually all flu shots.

Keep in mind, thimerosal was widely used for many pharmaceutical applications until recently (now being phased out). So the issue is much wider than vaccines.

For a good JAMA article on a meta-study involving nearly half a million patients, check out 2003 Oct 1;290(13):1763-6 (available in most libraries).

By the way, this is becoming another cash cow for the trial lawyers association.

What is a layman to do? Is it bad science or not and how do you find out the truth?

Well, what we need to do is look at the bigger picture, not at screaming lawyers. Anything in life has a risk and potential consequences; we need to weigh them.

Good, well-researched data show that the risk of catastrophic consequences from all infectious disease now able to be vaccinated against are MUCH higher than risk of nasty consequences from vaccines. And those who promote not undertaking vaccination increase the risk for others by increasing the pool of people able to spread these diseases, further increasing the risk for natural disease.

Can some vaccines cause problems in some groups? Yes, that's known. Is that a risk that means we should stop getting vaccinated? No.

The main issue here is what warnings and contraindications were provided as part of the licensing process? And who actually prescribed the vaccine to the child in question, and did they consider those warnings? It's an issue for the specific person(s) involved, not a trigger to stop the whole process. Do we stop driving cars everytime someone is killed in a crash? No, we realise there is a risk and we take it.

I could post more, but I'll stop now.

Cheers
Mick

Good news link - I am actually writing a research/term paper about thimerosal!

Perhaps I will post it on TIMO, when I am done.

Good going, Mike. That would make interesting reading. What class are you writing this for?

Here's a brief report of a well-designed, well-controlled study regarding a thiomersal-containing vaccine.

Might be useful for Mike and his article.

Cheers

Oh, and another nice, simple concise discussion.

Cheers
