Elderly woman mauled by pit bull

cnn
""I was terrified," Moore said. "I had always thought that dog might hurt somebody."

Moore said she had called Animal Care Services at least 10 times in the past year because she and her two young daughters feared the dog. "

Mad1,

What are your thoughts on this?

Personally I think these dogs are more subject to attack than others. Whether due to bad ownership, or genetic likelyhood, I personally feel they are more dangerous.

I just do not hear about black labs ripping off kids arms on a regular basis. Nor do I hear about golden reteivers, Great danes, german shepherds, ...

People will argue that they are less likely to attack when compared with all breeds. but that is silly, My old toy poodle was ill tempered and that never phased me, You said ow and or consoled you kid if they got nipped.

I still am looking for the stat which says the number of attacks per breed per breed population.

In other words how many serious injury attacks requiring stay in hospital or death happen for every breed by population

i.e. rottwilers 1 fatal mauling per 1,000 dogs

Or 1 fatal mauling by black lab per 50,000 black labs dogs

It would seem like the most correct method of evaluating risk.

I would like to know the whole story, as in what she may haev done to the dog. But you never get the story where the person provoked the dog, and then got mauled.

You will never get the true unbiased story about any killing or mauling, so you never really know what really happened.

On another note, I wonder how her great grandson feel now.

IMHO, I have yet to find a dog that will viciously attack until prevoked, yes walking within 10 feet of the dog may provoke it, but according to this, she was just unloading groceries and the dog attacked. I think she may have done more, or done stuff previously.

My knowledge regrding a pit bull is they are breed to be viscious. I have had 1 boxer(when I was a child) and 4 labs(have a black lab puppy at the moment) in my life. I like the temperment of the labs , I have a 3yr and 5yr old daughter and the puppy is pretty good with them. The 3 yr old was laying on her back with part of her stomach exposed and the puppy put his paws across her stomach and started licking on her stomach, whish I had pictures of that one. I have not seen a lab bite anyone, or heard of such a incident.
