On Electing A President
In the upcoming Presidential election, the real battleground appears to be SEVEN states. Remember, Bush was elected by 5 Electorial College votes. That means all the Democrats have to do is to swing 3 Electorial College votes.
To tell the truth, I don't imagine that any state that George Bush SOLIDLY carried in 2002, not voting for him again. He might have lost some support in those states. But not enough to lose him those states.
Also, I don't imagine that any state Al Gore carried solidly in 2002, not being carried by the Democrats. George Bush could have picked up some popularity in those states. But perhaps not enough to carry that state.
Gore carried New Mexico by less than 350 votes; Iwoa, Wisconsin, and Orgeon by 4000-7000 each. Those states have 27 Electorial College votes. Those states could swing to Bush.
But Bush won Florida by about 500 votes and New Hampshire by 5000. Those two states are worth 25 and 4, respectively.
But a valuable chink the armor is OHIO with 21 votes. The margin of victory for Bush was less than those who voted for Nader in that state. I can't imagine Nader supporters voting for Bush. They could vote Democrat.
It is Florida and Ohio that are the battle grounds. Expect tough talk supporting Israel, anti-Castro, and Social Security/Medicare to especially appeal to Florida voters. Ohio, it's going to be runaway shops! Outside chance, Indiana could get ugly for Bush.
