$15 for Western Digital 3-yr warranty?

We picked up a 160-GB WD drive at OM for $50 after rebates/coupons. In the retail box, Western Digital is offering to extend the 1-yr warranty to three years for $15.

Is this worth it?

I wouldn't do it. It still has a one year warranty. If it were mine and broke after a year, I would buy something newer and faster.

it is rather lame if ya ask me . it use to be 3 years out the door . but thats beside the point .

but it is up to you . look at it this way 15$ ain't gonna make or break ya . But also drives are so cheap is it worth it . 50$ ain't gonna make or break ya either in a year . i have only had to rma 3 drives in my life time .

The way some HDD's are going these days, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

im all for having stuff under warranty but you have to look at it this way.
if it breaks more than a year from now how cheap will you be able to get another hard drive like that. if you got it for $50 now, imagine the price in a year...

Ok, I guess the decision is no extended warranty.

I suppose the days of three year warranties for anything computer are pretty much gone.

Alternate Warranty is to get a American Express "Blue" Card which will double warranties to a max of 1 extra year.

Actually, I have one of those. Too bad I didn't use it for this purchase, but I'll keep it in mind for future purchases.
