Finance Is this legal resellerratings.com play?

http://www.gameve.com/gve/store/rate4us.htm It came to my attention at another forum... Im curious, are they allowed to 'bribe' people into giving them good ratings? Im not exactly sure on how this works. Last time i looked before this deal, their rating sucked... =\

Incase it goes off the site, heres an image of it.

Hmm... Seems kinda fishy... But then they don't say "Give use a good rating & we'll send you a free gift"...

Someone should try giving them a terible rating & see if they still get the gift pack...

no where does it say give them a good rating and you get a gift. They said rate us on the following website. Well send a free gift with your order for your rating

Yeah I've seen a lot of that stuff, ZipZoomFly does it also. Hey, anyone up for giving them crap and getting goodies?

I was thinking that, too... It's not bad to encourage people to rate you if it's not bribing them to give you a good rating. Then again, the gift might cause people to lean towards giving them a good rating.

It's not unusual to offer customers something in exchange for the time it takes to submit a rating. In fact, we're going to start offering daily prizes to people who submit reviews at ResellerRatings. The only time this would become a problem is if an offer/prize is withheld if the customer posts a bad review, and if we ever hear about that happening, we will be quick to contact the retailer and post a note on the retailer's reviews page detailing our finding.

Also, reviews should be solicited from customers only AFTER they have had a chance to receive their item. Rating a retailer right after or before an order has been placed is useless. We have an exit survey that retailers can place on their final order confirmation screen which asks the customer a few questions about their order, then follows up in 10 days to collect their written review and complete survey. That's the only way to ensure an accurate review.

It appears that GameVE is asking users to submit a review BEFORE they even checkout - we will contact them as this is totally inappropriate.

Newegg has done pretty much the same thing for years, although maybe a little more subtly and unadvertised.

I also don’t think GameVEs rating ever sucked, unless you consider 7-8 rating sucking. I’ve ordered from them before and had a decent experience. There was some miscommunication when I had a defective RMA that was over 30 days and I tried to do a cross-ship, but it was no worse then the form letter response I got when I contacted Newegg about an issue with their shipping calculator. I don’t think either is a bad company. Newegg seems to do a much better job of fixing any complaints that make it to Resellerratings by offering extra discounts and gifts though, which usually results in the negative rating being changed. At least they used to. That’s a smart policy on their part.

Obviously rating before you order from a company is a bit out there though. An offer like that should only be for return customers to rate their prior purchase.
