AVOID DELL PC"S Works customer service ever

I have been attempting to help a friend who didn't listen to my advice DO NOT BUY A DELL. "But it comes with a good warranty" Four weeks after the first problem her pc is still not useable, customer service will shunt her off to INDIA where the techs are difficult to understand; they have her repeat ad nauseum the same steps. So far she has racked up 36 hours on the telephone with no progress. NOw she knows why I gave her my advice to buy almost anything but DELL. Her warranty includes on site tech support; fat chance she will ever get it.

Dell overall has been OK by me...they have been helpful on rebate issues and I did have to get a new fan for a dimension and if I remember correctly it went smooth..although I must add that I had paid for "on site service" or whatever...and I dont recall any offer of them to send someone out, lol.

Same here - I'll buy the parts for others and give them free labour, because I'm a big nerd and enjoy fixing computers (save for eMachines, that company needs to go to hell).

Damn. As I have metioned in other post I usually will recomend getting a dell if they want a store bought computer. Now with dell going to india and hearing what I'm hearing now. I guess I will tell people that want a store bought computer over a custom built computer, to just flip a coin and I'll wish them good luck. LOL

So what's the problem, besides the tech support.

My mom just purchased a Dell should be at her place monday or tuesday. the 2400 series, I helped her customize it, and I recommened she get a dell for most of the same reasons in other dell threds and my role as her tech support will decrease

also she had a coupon and and some discount from her job, so the price was right

I want to know what to look out for

Dell's tech support is absolutely terrible. I'd imagine most of you with good experience had them in the past, before they outsourced all the tech support and got so big that the right hand didn't know what the left was doing.
