Ask and you shall recieve...

All #'s are in millions

From http://www.dell.com/downloads/global...c/q4fy04fs.pdf

Quote:
Net revenue $ 9,735
Cost of revenue 7,954
Gross margin 1,781
Means they run an 18% margin overall.

So if you take that $400 PC, that means they make $72 on it (based on the average, but PCs are at the low end of the margin scale so my guess would be less) How much support do you think they can offer for $72

From http://www.dell.com/downloads/global...ec/10Q04Q3.htm

The actual # is approx 70% is business, 30% consumer.
Quote:
Net revenue:
Americas:
Business $ 5,815
U.S. Consumer 1,695

I guess 70 and 85 are the same number to you? But you haven't verified that their business margins are higher than consumer.

Give me a break. Go do your own research. I am not here to prove every little point to someone who is too lazy to go look.

edit:

Or read. I never claimed the 85% number, just that consumer was not the lions share of their business. Which I very soundly proved.

the business margin doesn't necessarily have to be higher. any decrease in profit % is more than made up for, by sheer dollar volume.

how many PC's does the home user or small consumer buy in a year? and how often do they upgrade or buy more? then compare that to the business sector where PO's are typically placed for 20-100+ machines at a time...and usually more than once a year, at that.

now, don't get me wrong...the home market is nothing to scoff at, esp when a company like dell owns a good share of it. but you need to work real hard at it and scaled efficiency is an absolute must. the easy and bigger money however, is made on corporate sales.
