buyer guidance for a 15pin game port to 16pin

I have a GA-7VT600-L Gigabyte motherboard. It doesnt have a game port on the back panel. But it does have a game connector (thats what its called in the manual). I was looking online for an internal I/O game connector cable and I found a site: My Cable Shop I was wondering how I can know if this site is reliable or not?

Thanks in advance.

A game port/game connector/MIDI port is the same thing. You shouldn't have a problem connecting your old joystick or whatever to that. Or am I wrong and you indeed are having issues?

Do you mean a header on the board to connect a wire to, which then has the game port on a bracket or something? Or do you mean something else?

I cannot connect my joystick because there is no game port/MIDI port out of the back of the tower. On the motherboard there is a game connector. Its a set of 16 pins. You can see a picture here:

http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard...A-7VT600-L.htm

In the picture its the pins on the top left hand corner. I need something with a MIDI/game port (external) that has a cable which connects to those pins (game connector).

Do you see what I'm saying? Or more clarification needed?

Thanks.

Oh I get it.... so you just don't have the wire and the actual port the plug something into it. just the header on the motherboard that supports one? If that's the case, I really don't know how you will be able to get one. It's not something that you buy - it's included with your motherboard.

That's right ArcticFox, its just the header. I thought that it would be included with the motherboard but its not. I'll contact gigabyte and see what they say. Thanks for your help everyone.

What are you using for sound? Nothing? Get a cheap sound card. They have the game port on them. Or get a great sound card.

You can get the game port cable connector for your motherboard from several online vendors, do a google search for "game port connector" or something like that. here is one vendor that has a game cable (this one also has good diagrams of the pin ID's incase you motherboard has a nonstandard game/MIDI plug (or header), which will allow you to connect the correct pins to your motherboard pins as long as your motherboard manual tells you the Pin ID's on the motherboard are):

http://www.frontx.com/cpx091_2.html

with this particular model, you can mount your joystick port on the front of your computer in an empty 5.25 inch bay (see http://www.frontx.com/ for the 5.25 inch bay module that allows custom port configurations on the front of your computer case)

usually the game plugs (headers) on most motherboards and soundcards are a standard 2x8 header connector, meaning their are 2 rows of 8 female pin holes. If your motherboard has this, just make sure you match the pins correctly.

This next vender has a less costly option ($4.50) if you dont care about mounting the game/MIDI port in the front of the computer. It mounts in the back of the computer on a standard PCI slot cover.

cheers....

Thanks dabeef for the info, but I solved my problem by buying a game controller with more buttons and it has a USB connection.

Thanks again .
