My first Computer build. Look!

Hello, this is my first time posting so sorry if I ramble to much. I am going to attempt my first build soon and I wanted some input on the components I selected. I have upgraded computers and taken old ones a part in the past so I feel confident putting it together. my problem is I am not sure what components are better than others. My computer will be used for office applications, internet and some gaming. I want to stay around the $750 make if posible. I plan to upgrade to a better graphics card and a DVD bunner in a few months. I went with a Intel prossesor becase I have never owned or dealt with a AMD based computer before only Intel. This is what I came up with.

Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8C GHz 800MHz FSB
Asus 865PE P4P800 Motherboard
x2 Corsair XMS Extreme 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3200 (512 total)
Western Digital Special Edition 80GB 7200RPM
Gigabyte RADEON 9200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit
MAXTOP CSX-147K2F-GF-USB-GRAY Case
Thermaltake Silent PurePower, 420W ATX
Lite On Beige 52x32x52 CD-RW Drive
encore 56K Internal PCI Fax Modem

Any comments or suggestions would be most welcomed. thanks

Great Setup there. However, lemme just give a tip. in the next 5 months, everytihing in the pc world is gonna change. intel prescott cpu 4+Ghz will appear (this will in turn make all the prices of stnd. intels p4 drop a nice amount..including ure 2.8 ure after). also PCI Express is coming around the same time. Which will be the replacement for the AGP bus, providing nearly 100x the speed, also this will create a new generation of motherboards. (the pci express is also cheaper to manufacture and simplier than PCI bus's, so this will lower the price of mobo's some) ALSO AGP video card prices will drop (in general), becuase of the new PCI standard. So if "I" were you, I would wait a few months and save ureself some $$$. Thats what im doing. Because if u 'upgrade' now, all ure components will be outdated in like four months, lol. But, it is tempting I know. hang in there ;-)

only thing i could see that you might want to change is the ram. XMS sounds like overkill for office work, internet and some gaming. if i remember correctly XMS is kind of pricey so you might be able to switch to regular corsair and save yourself a few bucks and maybe you can bump the video card now.

i have the Asus p4p800 deluxe mother board. it rocks. Also supports upcoming Priscot processor so you might want to go for the Deluxe version.

yeah, get a better card. if you are into 3d gaming and gaphics stuff, you should start earning some more bucks. the rest of the system hardware you have is more than enough.

good luck!

" in the next 5 months, everything in the pc world is gonna change"

hehe...that whole line of thought is sort of a trap, or a slight un-truth in a way.

Because....theres NEVER a time when that statement ISNT true, lol.

There's ALWAYS a new cpu coming or a new vid card etc etc.

And remember....has there EVER been a major cpu release that WASNT delayed???

and to be real about....how much is it REALLY gonna change???? IS email no longer gonna work? Is the internet going to be different??

Im on a cheap PC CHips/on board duron with w98se and 256 PC133........uh, so they have another new cpu coming out this week....hmm, is that REALLY going to affect me?? lol

If you have the $$$ and are ready...why wait..buy now...in 5 months..something even NEWER and "MUCH" BETTER will only be 6 months away!!

If it's your first time building a computer, you might want to take a look at these:

Gives a good explanation of everything including what each type of screw does.
