AMD 64's are not hyperthreading CPU's so it won't matter in his case.

yes sixpac is right but home does support hyperthreading just not 2 physical cpus but i would go with home for now as it is cheaper and then get 64 bit pro later or you could just hold off a couple months and get the 64 bit first

There are some releases of the Linux distros that are 64 bit.. not sure what is released or not but if you don't 'need' or wanna check out something other then Windows O/S then look around...

The power of 64 bit cpu processing is unleased..

FINALLY! LOL

A good way to get XP pro cheap is if you know someone at a major university. The student edition, which here at University of Florida is $99, is the pro edition. You just need to find someone with a student ID to purchase it for you. Same thing for other software.

I used to jock W2K over XP but after using XP Pro for several months now I have changed my tune. XP has way more support for multimedia. W2K is great for client server applications but XP Pro has some great features that fo not exist on W2K.

Another vote here for XP very stable and I like the security features of it. IF you can afford it get it you will not be disappointed.
