hi all,
I'm thinking of buying a pda. I would like to do the following things with it:
1. Store telephone nums, email addresses, etc.
2. Daily Task List with ability to check things off
3. Maintain daily blogs on random things like:
a. movies, music .. short reviews/ratings.
b. good eats/hikes/resorts notes about them
c. links to good news articles with short annotations
(each of these might take upto 3-5 paragraphs)
d. ability to organize by date/category and transfer this information periodically (say once in a month or so) to my computer and maintain archives.

Nice to have:
1. reasonable looks (zire like). nothing fancy.
2. good screen clarity(not necessarily color. a clear b/w screen will do)
3. decent battery life.
4. Good input interface. Since I plan to enter and maintain short reviews, I need a easily learnable and usable input device.
5. I might install applications if they help me do 3 (a,b,c,d) more efficiently.

what I *really don't* need.
1. multimedia bull****. I don't want any mp3 players, built in cameras, etc. I plan to use it only to store text data and nothing else.

I checked out reviews on a couple of palm zires which seem to be known for doing the basic stuff well and don't cost too much. I don't want to spend more than a 100 bucks so I'd greatly appreciate advice from seasoned pda users if the above are possible within the pricerange.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. keep the posts coming.

If you don't want to spend more than $100 for a PDA, a Palm is your only option. Even that might be pushing it.

Of course, there's always Ebay...

It sounds like the Palm Zire 21 is up your alley. It runs about $100.

The only thing I don't like about it, not very thin, but the price is right!

Terrific Deal PEG SJ22

Well, some things to ponder . . . .

Zire 21 only has 8MB of memory, a 16MHz processor, and no ability to add additional memory.

Palm makes ya' learn their grafetti in order to write in your messages. You can use the key pad, but that tends to be a pain.

Using the word processor program means that you may lose formating, and you'll have minimal fonts to work with.

The $100 limit only give you the 2 choices and you may find that neither fit the bill you're looking to fill.

Being the odd ball that I am, I went with the Sharp Zaurus when it was on Clearance at Staples and only paid $139 for it. It runs Linux, but has 64MB of RAM and a 206MHz processor. The Hancom Word and Spreadsheet look identical to what you find on your full size computer and you have many of the same formating, fonts, and formula's that you are used to. Plus, the hand writing recognition is good and easy.

Just a couple things to think about.
