Netflix... shh!!

So I just decided to cancel my Netflix account, as I'd watched a few movies and wanted a break. But when I clicked on the cancel button, they had a special offer:

$15.99/month for 3 months, or
$14.99/month for 6 months

--if I didn't cancel, discounted from $19.95/month on the 3 DVD out plan. Click the cancel link in your account to see if you get that, too. You have to confirm it before you're cancelled, so you have nothing to lose.

Hmm, I have been thinking about canceling myself, since I have only gotten like 2 DVDs in the past month anyway. I tried it and did not get the offer though. I was going to cancel anyway but I still have one of their DVDs here and I read this on what appears to be the final cancellation step.

> Cancellation will be effective immediately. There are no refunds for partial months. You can sign up for Netflix Service again at any time; however, you will not be eligible for another free Netflix Service offer.

> Outstanding rentals must be mailed back to Netflix within 7 days of cancellation. If you cancel, you must return all outstanding rentals within 7 days, or we'll automatically charge your credit card for the unreturned DVDs. No refunds or credits are given for partial months or unwatched movies.

> We'll send you an email confirming your cancellation.

I guess I better wait until my queue shows all titles returned before I finalize cancellation. I don’t like that they say they will charge for any titles not returned in 7 days. If there is a mix-up or a delay with the mail (Holidays) they may end up charging you full retail for a DVD you sent back. Cancellation is effective immediately? I guess that means even if your credit card was just billed yesterday, you would lose the remainder of the month. It might be worth a try if you currently have no titles out and are near the end of your billing period. You probably don't get the offer if you have any titles out anyway, I know I didn't and I have been a member for years.

By the way, how were you paying $19.95? I have been being charged $21.95 for as long as I can remember.

Once I get my DVD writer this Christmas I'm going to get into DVDs. Is Netflix fast and do they have most DVDs out? Like how long does it take for you to get movies.

I have run into this before... I had two accounts running at the same time. When I went to cancel one I got the deal offer when I canceled the other one I did not. You dont get a refund for cancelling and its instant. So the trick is to try and cancel the day before you're about to be billed. If you get the offer sign up for it. If not sign back up for netflix and you wont get any interrution in service.

(Oh ya.. Netflix 8 out at a time plan + Dvd Burner + Meritline.com = a full 400 dvd changer

The one bad thing I have heard about netflix (and I believe a study confirmed this) is that the longer you are in the service, the longer it takes to get movies.

They give all the new people higher priority so that they like the service.

Here it is

I'm using www.walmart.com dvd rentals. They have better prices than netflix and a 30 day free trial. I'm also considering trying www.cleanfilms.com since they edit thier movies so that everyone can watch them. they have a free trial for 1 dvd. But if you get referred by a friend you can get 3 free dvd.

I have a question for those that have been using these services for awhile. Do you ever run out of movies to watch? My wife and I rent frequently (twice a month, two at a time usually). Sometimes I go into BB though and don't see anything I want. It seems like after a few months, you would have watched all the movies that interest you, and then only watch a few here and there as they come out.

I agree but normally I can find stuff. I really like renting some of the TV shows that come out on DVD. Those take a while to watch and BB normally dosnt offer the TV shows on DVD. Its just nice not to have late fees
