Satellite TV or Comcast digital??

Well here is the deal I'm split on both. From what I see satellite TV has more stuff I like at a better price but comcast has broadband Inet and for the total package its close

to get the comparison what i got now is 2 phone lines one is primary 40ish sec is 15 or more AOHELL 19-24 dunno and 6 for an extra ISP so

47 a month for isp only phone line might stay so 32monthly

right now on reg cable we have full basic n HBO we need at least that but i can't get that price for satellite

so what you think digi cable and broadband Inet or satellite TV and see what they got on Inet

Have you looked at Dishnetworks systems?
Basic setup is $24.99 a month and includes most of the common channels (local channels $5.99 extra). You can also purchase a year in advance for 275.00, 12 months for the price of 11, something DirecTV does not offer.

As far as the cable internet, I have Comcast and had to subscribe to the basic cable @ $10.77 per month to keep my bill reasonable.
Without the cable TV Service, Internet access only is $57.95 a month, and thats with my own modem. With the basic TV service, $42.95 a month.
Can you say BLACKMAIL
And did I mention that the TV feed sucks?

Keep in mind to that alot of the Comcast stations are NOT digital, and you will need a converter for the TVs that you wish to receive the digital channels on.

Unless you can come up with something I haven't thought of.
I did manage to get the $19.95 internet access rate for ANOTHER 6 months, don't know how though. When I set up the basic cable a month ago that was the price they gave me, even though i've had broadband for 2 1/2 years.
So right now i'm paying about $30.00 to Comcast and $34.00 to DirecTV per month. I can live with that cost for right now.
I'm going to dump DirecTV when Dishnetwork comes up with some better hardware. The DN free system receiver does not offer the features that my RCA has now (RF remote, 2 sets of A/V outs) and there upper end units are to expensive for what you get.

woodbutcher,

So with both comcast internet and cable, can I ask u what is your total and did you have any special deal when you got it. I am currently paying the internet and cable separate prices on the same bill. Thanks

My current Comcast bill is $30.06

11/02 - 12/01 Basic Service 10.07
11/07 Chsi W/Cbl Partial Month(s) 11/08-12/07 42.95
11/07 Hsi W/Cbl 19.99/Mo-6Mos - 22.96

Cut and pasted from last months bill (online).
I was wrong, the 'basic' channels are $10.07, not $10.77.

I'll take DSS over digital cable for the TV pic quality.
Local channels here are NOT digial, although they are on DSS systems.
One thing that is cool though with Comcast here, Sycamore gets both the Chicago AND Rockford ABC, CBS NBC stations.
Did I mention that the Local Comcast channels suck?

BTW engracio, The only "special" deal was the $19.95 they gave me when I sighned up for Basic cable service. If I hadn't signed up for the Basic TV service I would have to pay the standard Internet Access Rate of $57.95. This 'rate' is for customers that do not subscibe to ANY TV service. The basic TV service intitles me to a $15.00 a month discount which brings the broadband service to $42.95 a month.

woodbutcher,

Thanks for the reply, I guess the main difference we have is the 19.99 internet cable you have to which I pay the full price.

The basic cable difference, I attribute to your location being farther from Chicago.

Oh well, hooked on broadband now. Never going back to dial up. Thanks

I you do decide to go with Dish Network, I have a 2-room system, new in the box that you can have for cheap. It comes with a dual LNB dish, 2 receivers, probably some cables and stuff. Let me know if you're interested.

Well after looking at the overall cost it looks like sticking with comcast and going with digital cable will be the better less expensive...looks like i missed the 19.95 p/mo deal so I think I'm going to wait and see what happens

I was looking over directTV's deals and their stattelite internet service but i just took a peek, never really did see the prices on the sat/net.

edit: looks like total cost either way I go is going to be way too much. If I could have gotten the comcast deal at 20/mo maybe but even that right now will be too costly pretty much the only reason for the change was because the old folks wanted more channels and there would be no need for the 2 phonelines and aol. As is I only ahve to pay 6/mo out of pocket
