I was looking for a good 3.1 MP recently and after tons of research I ended up getting a Kodak DX 6340 (yeh, I know Kodak? & quality camera? But it is!). It takes great quality Pics. The only real complaint I have read about (and noticed on mine) is that there is a bit of a delay from when you press the shutter button and when it actually takes the pic. However it varies under conditions – sometimes it’s fast and other times a bit slow. Also, if you turn of red eye reduction, it helps a lot to. But basically, in all the reviews I've read on the DX series from Kodak, hardly anyone has any real complaints.
I got mine from Computergeeks.com as a refurb. It came just like a new model -- just in a brown box (Direct from Kodak, not repacked at the reseller). It came with all the extras as a new one and has the same warranty (1 year) It was $229.99 minus geek coupon of $30, so about $207.00 shipped. I love the pic quality. It is very simple to use, but also has some nice advanced features that are also simple to make use of.
I have the coupon code if you want it: GEEK6340

As of 12/01/2003 at 6Am Central time, still in stock.
IMHO it would be hard to find a better camera for the money. The lens is great & the LCD is big and very easy to read even in bright light.
Has a 4X OPTICAL zoom, excellent quality Schneider Variogon lens, and a flash that has up top a 20' range. Plus, great Macro function. Takes MMC & SD memory and can use a variety of AA batt power sources (rechargeable & CRV3 work best). I suggest using SD cards at 256MB or higher (such as Simpletech. they have very fast data transfer rates Vs the 128 MB cards).
Just stay away from the CX series by Kodak -- lots of problems. The DX series no problems.
