I've dealt with bunches of online companies and I am truly disgusted with BUY.com. I recently purchased a DVD player that was obviously used and was shipped in the manufacturer's original box with zero packaging besides that! To make matters worse, the remote was loose and banged around inside AND the styrofoam was not of that model because the unit was not even snug and in fact was quite loose in the box. Needless to say, I shipped it right back - at my cost, for a refund but not before taking plenty of pictures of the condition of the unit and box. Also got a router which did not operate. Worse online experience in 6 years. Those who ignore this, you deserve what you get.

I have ordered from buy.com but it was a year or two ago. Made two orders, used online coupons (15 off 150) worked great.

Saying that.. I have not ordered since so if the issue is recent then i'm in the dark about it

I hadn't thought of that, I guess that might have worked, but I wouldn't have a clean conscience.

Problem is.......it's not that hunkey-dorey simple with Credit-Card issuers as just your claim for a deduction.

They contact the Vender who...well a Vendor who scams you isn't going to admit to every deatil, and after this "thorough inquiry" they are apt to deny your claim. Hey, you did get something, so bring it up with the warrantee etc.

"You shoulda bought a product warrenty.." on the phone or ""We were unable to confirm your claim and are therefore denying it", by letter.

With a big handle, 2 % of a Vendors gross charges the Card Companies get is too big a pot to spit in over some card holder's claim.

A Vendor whose current management is looking to boost short-term profits --perhaps to sell they Co., go Public, or "earn" a bonus for high ranking Execs, knows they have nothing to fear from any one isolated Customer and the Credit Card issuers.

When my Sister wanted to buy me a Video Card for last Christmas..(err...I hinted..), she asked , "Is this the lowest price?" My response was, this was the lowest price from an ethical Vender [as far as I knew].

This ultimately is a better defense than relying on Credit issuers after the fact.

I have shopped at Buy.com several times and never experienced the problems that everyone is complaining about.

Don't get me wrong the ResellerRatings are great but it can still be skewed. Like about 90% or so of all online shoppers do NOT submit a review of the online dealer after their purchase. Furthermore, it is probably more likely that people who were unsatisfied with the service will post such reviews thus skewing the stats to an unfavorable rating.

That's just my $.02

Thanks,
magwel

Yo, Magwel , while I understand your puzzlement about your experience with this e_vendor, and that of several others,
Quote:
"Don't get me wrong, the ResellersRatings are great
but can be still be skewed."--Magwel
this would not explain why this particular vendor was 'skewed' toward thw bottom of the Rating scale more so than other e-Vendors. As Sportscaster Marve Albert used to say,
"Let's go to the Videotape"

The Average (or mean or midpont) divides the Vendors in Half: the half above, and the half below.

So Half are scored above 8.38 while the other Half below.

Buy.Com was scored 4.8, considerably well down into the lower half, actually 3.58 points below the half-way point.

Why should it have sufferred from the effect you speak of that those who are dissatisfied are more likely to to respond to ResselersRatings than those who are satisfied ?

In fact, with an Average of 8.38, it would strongly suggest that the vast majority of Buyer responders are quite satisfied with their various Vendors.

Could it be that its Rating for the last 6 months--which has gone down considerably--as low as 2.2 in 'Returns and Refunds'-- accurately reflects its performance in that time-period, compared to its peers..other Venders ?

What could be driving al those dissatisfied Buyers to repond negatively, except maybe a consensus negative experience ?

Best wishes, and glad to hear you had a good experience with what the numbers suggest is
Don't Buy.Com

Looked up this fine Vendor at a Shopping Portal

This what the last ten Responders had to say:

--"My internet purchase from Hell"

--"Is BUY.COM.... An Entity of its Own ?"

--"Bill Me Later Options causes headaches."

--"Excellent Service...no complaints at all."

--"What customer service...doesn't exist"

--"Terrible. Never again."

--"Do not order from them! Rip-off artists. No cust. serv."

--I will no longer buy at BUY.COM"

--"I can't believe this legal! [releasing Credit Card # to other Vendor.]"

--"Do not buy from there."

Now 7 out of 10 above of their
most recent Responders above stated they "Would not buy there again", as compared to 2/3's Lifetime (not high) who would.

Does this, too, point to a dramatic decline in this Vendor over more recent times ?

What I want to know is who their CEO/President are,
and where I could communicate with them.

Wasting Customer's time is a serious matter.
