So based on this thread, e-Machines are much better than Dell?

I guess that's why they call it anecdotal evidence.

eMachines? LOL I had 2 of them, worst computers I've ever had the pleasure of reformating (20+ times on one of them). Their customer service may be good, but their products arn't.

I've bought 5 or 6 computers from Dell this year The times I have had a problem, they've never known the answer. One time, I had to help the tech support guy... it's absolutely absurd.

I will still buy dell, but only when it's a steal, and I won't be using their tech support unless I need a part rma'd.

i got a new 2400 and 6 days into it the mobo died, so they came and replaced it, then guess what it died again, so they came a third time and i said no, give my a refund now, so after he left and i called dell, I was on hold for 2 1/2 hours theni got some free roxio sowftare and a full refund, so i ended up better off just buying random parts and putting them together then I ever was with dell.

I work for a company that has several Dells. Since I've been hired in as the IT guy, we are no longer going to purchase any PCs from them strictly because of their crappy support. This is something that happened about a month ago.

A PC dies at a different store. (I take care of two.) They call me. I tell them it sounds like a bad motherboard and to call Dell since it's still under the next-day warranty. They call Dell and talk for about an hour about it. Dell finally agrees that it's probably a bad motherboard. They send a guy out with a motherboard, but it's not the next day since it died on a friday, nor was it monday. Tuesday the guy shows up, replaces the motherboard. The PC still won't turn on. Guy leaves and says he'll contact Dell. Friday he comes back out with another motherboard. Installs it and the machine turns on - he leaves. I get a call Friday just before I left - PC doesn't work right. I go out the next Monday. What the??? There's no NIC listed. I try to add the NIC. Nothing would make it recognize the on-board NIC. Checked the BIOS - everything's fine. PC also locks up completely from time to time with no discernable pattern. <sigh> Do the rest of the stuff they had for me to do out there and come home. Tuesday I call Dell. They can't do anything unless I'm in front of the machine. I get the machine and rip it apart. There is a scorch mark on the network controller. I call Dell. It took a full 90 minutes of sitting on the phone with the know-nothing person to get him to send out another motherboard. I get it on Thursday and the PC is back in service the next day. Only took 2 full weeks for the next-day warranty and me working on it to finally fix the damn thing.

I'm in the process of building 30 machines for both stores. Dell didn't get one cent.
