Gaming Scream at Screaming Internet ISP

Just a fair warning to anyone interested in dialup access.

My dialup ISP apparently just up and walked away from business..... no notice aside from a raft of access number changes then poof - no access to the internet.

Gone.

Being a curious fellow, I figured "...yet another access number change... lets get todays access list..."
No website.
Toll free 24x7 tech support connects to a fast busy.
Toll free billing number (different from tech) also goes to a fast busy. Evidently no access to their offices either

oooookaayyyyy. Time for a new ISP, this one is not servicing the customers....

While searching for a new ISP, I clicked the back button in my browser, and as the screen refreshed, I saw a new link flash by: 'Net provider [Screaming Internet] shuts Steamboat [Springs] Pilot & Today October 20, 2003'.

Nobody has been able to reach Screaming Internet owner Ryan Troy.

"There are all kinds of people trying to find them," said Bob Larson of AlpenGlow Ventures. Larson was the landlord for the company that operated as an "internet service provider," or ISP. Larson has posted a letter on the door of the business seeking more than $18,000 in back rent and penalties. Screaming Internet offered unlimited 56k dialup access to the Internet, including e-mail service to residential and commercial customers.

Dan Retz of Security Plus said he has been aware of problems with his service on Screaming Internet off and on, but when the service went down, it was abrupt.

"It was all of a sudden," Retz said. "Thursday I had service. When I got back into town Monday," his e-mail connection was lost.

...

Ironically, Retz said, his own employees were conducting a security check in Sundance at Fish Creek late one night last weekend and observed people at Screaming Internet loading vehicles. They didn't think anything of it because there were often employees there late at night, he said.
Acording to a former employee, Ryan Troy may be working http://www.burstonline.com/ Ironic name, eh? The burst site is identical to the Screaming internet site, aside from different content in the graphics used.... same trouble ticket system, same placement of menu items, etc., no problem recognizing that the old site got new pictures.

Ah well, $8.95 per month was just not the cash cow for them, I guess.

So far, I'm not out any $$$, since I have not lost all access through the Scream numbers, nor have I been falsely billed for services (but the new month approaches!).

Anyways.... if anyone gets to chat face to face with the owner of Screaming Internet .... give him a dope slap for me, OK? Steve Miller Band music is softly playing in the background..... 'go on, take the money and run...'

Oh, and I suggest that you do not use burstonline as your ISP, unless you like Steve Millers' music.
