Questions - BestBuy's Service Plan
greetings everyone, im a newbie here so let me say a hi to u all first.
since i saw quite alot of guys here r BestBuy's techs, so i would like to ask u guys a question.
i bought a sony laptop from Bestbuy store recently, and the salesperson there persuaded me to join the service plan by saying all the advantages, especially they claimed that i can get 3 FREE BATTERIES before the service ends, coz its also a kind of care in the plan. finally i joined the service and paid 249.99.
my question is, i dont really know like how, or when will i get the other batteries? is it a kind of exchange my old ones or i can get a new one for free? thats because i did not see any statements in the paperwork that i signed, nor in the catalog and the receipt. can anyone pls tell me whats it about?
appreciate on all replies, also thanks for reading my topic.

I think BestBuy ripped you off into signing that contract. These contracts are where Staples/BB and similiar companies make money.
What the salesperson implied was that in case your batter goes dead, you can have it replaced. Upto three times. With that kind of money you can buy 3 batteries anyway.
And why would you need three? These batteries last 4-5 years.

yea thats what im always thinking of these days: WHY HE TOLD ME THAT I WILL HAVE 3 BATTERIES? WHY I NEED 3 BATTERIES?
also i checked out the link provided by MDS and now i think i made up my mind and ill go to BB and cancel the plan. im not criticizing the salespersons in BBs' sales techniques, but frankly speaking, it will absolutely make little customers confusing (me).
special thanks to Shahani and MDS, for your kindly reply. wish u all well.

Vaitte, sales people get a huge commission from these plans. So they push.
Unless you are very unlucky, most electronic items like computers don't go bad so often. Reliability is very high.
Why pay 25% insurance? Like buying a $20,000 Honda and paying $5,000 for extended warranty. And PCs are far more reliable than a mechanical car.
See, the warranty policy is so well written and so attractive that people get induced into buying. The key point is 99% of the time, nothing goes wrong. So, while they say a lot of things and will honor them, you will probably never need such service.
Once a peep at Staples tried to sell me such a policy on a digital camera. They are told to offer extended warranty to every customer. So you can't blame them. Its the stores policy of ripping off customers that I get upset at.
I'd just go and cancel it.

I got one with my palmtop and have been really happy with it, actually. My Jornada's screen started geting weird almost a year after I bought it, so I took it back and they gave me a new iPaq. Then that iPaq got messed up (went to a REALLY weird screen whenever I put a jacket on) and they gave me another new one.
That whole "3 new batteries" thing sounds really shady, though..

ure right Nighthawk, i admit the great service and customer care in BB, coz i heard alot of ppl talking about that. however, what the problem is why he used this kind of selling technique (the 3 free batteries) that will misunderstands customers. if he told me about the service that just like your case, i will accept that and maybe i would like to pay 250 bucks happily. however he misused the idea of the service and try to persuade customers in a different way, that makes me dissappointed.
and thats the reason why online shopping is gaining its popularity.

I don't believe BB sales people make a commission, but BB sure makes a tidy profit from those service plans.
Maybe they give their employees a little treat every time they sell one of these things. |

BB/CC/CompUSA guys work on commission + salary. Staples/OM/OD do not.
