never buy anything with a manufacturers rebate at Best Buy unless you are willing to pay the price before rebate because your chances for receiving the rebate from the manufacturer is almost nill

service plans are where stores make all their money. wall streat journal had an exellent article on this a few months back. i never waste my money on service plans. i have never had to take anything back and even if i did i still have more money for other things.

I have to agree with the others. NEVER purchase a service (disservice) plan from BestBuy. I bought a printer in January and returned today for repair. I have a 3 year service plan. They told me that they do not repair it but, since it was not longer being manufactured, they will replace it with one of the same price. The one I bought was on sale and is an office quality machine. The same priced ones now are home machines. The service plan states that they will replace it with a comparable unit (comparable in performance). The replacement unit from the manufacturer is not on sale and is now $100 more. STAY AWAY FROM BESTBUY.

I got a 3 year replacement plan from BB on a joystick and after a year and half the thing stopped working. BB replaced the joystick with a new one and I still have another 1.5 years on this one. Of course the service plan wasn't much so it worked for me, but I don't think I would pay $250 for a service plan on a computer though.

Plan on abusing an item? cell phone, cordless phone, laptop, palm, walkman. then insurance is often worth it. Computer that never moves from your house, skip it.

1 battery can cost you $100 on up at retail cost. What happens if you accidentally drop your lappy? or you screen becomes pixelated? or you get a power surge? MFG gonna say "That is not a mfg defect." Batteries are not covered either. Ask to look in their Tech Shop...especially at CompUSA <since they do their extended warranty work in their shops>. YES, that is where they make their money...there is a reason for that.

WHY?? Did they not get you a comparable printer?? Are you trying to get more?? Guess I dont understand why you are disgruntled if you got a comparable or better machine. If you did then the service plan did what they said they would do.

I've done the reverse a couple of times, but this deal is harder to do these days.

Purchase and "open box" buy on a comp or printer at 30% or more discount. I bought two comps over the years this way, one BB and one Comp USA. To sell the product, they threw in a "free" 5 year extended warranty.

Thing is, the warranty was valued at over $200, so the ring up went something like this"

$1400 system, "open box" price, $850. Less $250 for warranty, so only pay sales tax on $600.

I never needed warranty work on either system.

BB sales people have never been paid commission.

CC stopped paying commission earlier this year (according to this).

CUSA only pay commission to their staff that sell systems.

i bought the 3 year plan when i purchased my laptop 2 years ago.

this laptop has been just a mess ever since, i returned it after a week and they gave me a new one.

its been two years and this computer is constantly freezing. its an inherent design flaw and the computer just cannot handle the amd athlon processor.

now, if i take it to best buy, will they try to fix it or send it to a shop to get it fixed? is there any chance that they will replace the laptop with a one of similar value?
