question about case hookups

the connectors that go from the case to the mobo, if they get hooked up backwards will they damage the mobo? or will they simply not work so that you'll know to switch them?

if you are on about the led wires for the power and hard drive, then yes they are safe, but will not work reversed. the reset switch and power (if on the newer type power supplies with a 'soft' power switch (not wired directly to the mains in your psu)) will work in reverse. the speaker should work in reverse but i can't remember if the speaker connector is keyed to work one way round. i don't think it is.

Yeah, the switches won't pose a problem. If your LED's don't light, just reverse the plug and if you got them connected to the correct pins on the motherboard they should work.

The MOBO I'm using now has an on-board Buzzer( speaker) there
is a jumper for the speaker pins. If I remove the jumper and hook up the case speaker the post beep will also play over the external
speakers.Very loud and annoying especially early in the morning.
Needless to say the jumper is firmly in place. the case speaker is installed in the junk box.

Ahhhhhh......Uncle Bob confirms, I'm not the only one. Just built a computer for a guy from work. VIA mobo & that sucker beeped thru the external speakers too. I didn't bother messing with it but I might now. The mobo didn't come w/ a jumper so I wonder if simply unplugging & tying off the speaker (buzzer) wires would accomplish the same thing? (if not, I got jumpers in a drawer somewhere) (c=

I have worked with severial Via MOBO's (good stuff) Some of them
do beep through the external speakers. I never tried the jumper
on a Via. The boards I've worked with had the speaker plug spanning 4 pins. My msi MOBO is the same. the speaker wires,
one on the left two unused then the second wire.the jumper goes
on the two unused pins. I hope this helps. be careful. If you try it please post which board and the results.
