Should I Trust Ebay?

I've Never used Ebay until the other day when my Radeon 9500 Pro got fried and I needed a new card cheap and fast.

I never buy ANYTHING off the internet because I don't really trust people or electricity with my credit card information.

I made a Paypal account and and Ebay account (in the opposite order) and did the "buy now" thing for a Radeon 9800 NP for $250.

I was quite paranoid indeed let me tell you....All of the sudden $265 was out of my bank account and I had no card in my hand and my trust was put in the internet, some guy with my card, and the U.S. Postal Service. The money was already gone, and I couldn't quite find an E-mail right away to get notified of the situation.

I wasn't sure how the whole shindig worked but I was hoping some guy wasn't sitting there laughing maniacally at me as I just gave him my dough to never hear from him again.

After I e-mailed who I thought was the guy (it was the only e-mail I could find) I got a reply shortly thereafter saying congrats for winning and whatnot and said he'd send it out ont he 18th and get me a "tracking number".

Well....since then I havn't heard from him and I'm still anxious about this whole ebay business.

Anybody got some good stories to either make me less paranoid or shut me up?

Thanks =D

I've had many good experiences with ebayers....when I did my research and found out the feedback and emailed the person for a response BEFORE I bought. In general if you order from a power seller or a buisness with a high feedback you will find it a pleasant experience. Many people on ebay frequently check their email but some get backlogged. If they are a good seller you should be able to get a response out of them within 24hrs.

It also helps to do your research on items you want. Look in the online stores like www.newegg.com first. They are one of the easiest to work with.

The question is do you trust Paypal, or the company you used to send the money online.

The trick with Paypal is to send the money to your account asap and then take it out of the account asap. HEHE

agreed 100% I've yet to have any issues with anyone on ebay or with pay-pal. {can't say the same with some private trades}Its no different than using any other store online, you have to do a little homework before trusting who you buy from.

Thanks,

I'm slightly relieved but I dont think the full relief will kick in till my radeon is in my AGP slot tucked nice and safe beneath my Doom 3 Alpha...

Ebay sucks, PayPal is only great so long as nothing goes wrong, and a good deal of Ebayers suck too.

That's my opinion of the whole place.

I just had my first experience with Ebay recently. It was a good one. Do some research and buy from sellers who have lots of good feedback.

I sent a couple emails before I got a response. I figure the person got backlogged with email since he was selling quite a few items at the same time.
