Paypal FRAUD!!!

This SUCKS big time...

I got an email this morning from paypal that stated I recieved "potentially fraudulent funds".

This was from an ebay auction totalling over $500!!!

I hope this clears up, because they cleared the amount from my account and now its in the negatives!!

Has anyone else gotten "potentially fraudulent funds"?

That is BS. They have the resources to validate who's paypal information is real and which is not. AFAIK. So I would have to put the responsibility on them. You cleared it through paypal and therefore you are only responisble for knowing that they are a reliable source.

Or do I not understand how this works.

I am assuming that this was someone who paid you money through paypal right.

Knock on wood but I have never had any problems with paypal but I opened a c2it account and had nothing but problems so cancelled that. I use paypal or snail mail a business check If a seller wont accept either of those two forms of payment with my background and such then they are someone I dont want to deal with anyways

My Roomate sold his G4 on Ebay toa guy. The buyer asked if he could ship it to Switzerland for him as a gift to his brother, he woudl pay whatever the shipping cost was (that should have been our clue right there). Well, money came in on paypal so my roomate sent it off. Two days later Paypal takes his money back saying the account wasnt valid. Roomate called post office who said they could not stop package even though it was in the united states. Paypal wouldnt help either since account had been hacked into. So basically my roomate lost his computer to some jerk off in switzerland.

Two months later......

His paypal account suddenly has over 1000 dollars in it, Apperently the guy got caught doing this repeatedly. So good luck, you never know what may happen when you use paypal.

thats why you should state that you will only send it after payment has been recieved. granted some people do this and keep the money without sending the product (sound familiar in a flipped way). but then again, thats why i only bid on items that accept money orders or checks.

Are you sure it was paypal who sent the message? Or someone impersonating Paypal to get you to enter your information (sending it to them) which in turn actually causes this to happen.

A lot of scams going around...

a friend of mine had this happen repeatedly on ebay...so he would shoot funds between accts all the time to avoid someone removing or withdrawing their funds. once it transfered in...he moved it elsewhere...not sure if this helps now...but maybe an idea for the future??
