TDK IndiDVD 440N or Sony DRU510A?

Okay, the time has come to get a DVD burner for the office. Mostly it will be used for backups of our workgroup server and individual PCs. I'm getting the DVD burner instead of a normal CD Burner so we can cram more GB onto the disc.

So, to play it safe, I'm looking at +/- drives. That brings me to the question:

Should I get a TDK IndiDVD 440N or a Sony DRU510A?

I'd like to hear from anyone who's got one or other of the drives. Ideally, I'd love to hear from someone who made this same decision in the past few weeks -- what did you choose? Why?

DVDRHelp.com give these two about an equal review. Maybe the SONY has a bit more supported brands of DVD media -- that's about the only differences I see.

Any first hand reviews out there in the TechIMO community?

If you can come up with it, I'd be very interested in reading it.

Kids The question that has me pondered

I took 2 weeks out and finally decided to go with the TDK 440N. I have owned other sony computer product before and was really disapointed by them. Their customer service is terrible. The only thing I like about the sony drive is that it has 4x -RW. The is probably the hottest DVD recorder technology on the market. No other company has it. However, one thing about the sony drive is that even though they do 4X like every body esle on +R, their time is 2-10 minutes slower. The TDK however has solid performance. Their theoric performance and acutal performance differ in less than 1 minute for a full DVD 4.7 GB. The software it gies, Roxio 6 has a really pwrful tool called DVD builder.
I used the TDK drive for fixing disruptive light unreadable DVD and It does a fine job. I bought an enclosure for the drive to have it being portable. When plug into other computer with USB1, buffer-underrun works flawlessly un extremely insufficient data input conndition for 1- 2 hrs without a problem. I don't mean to be bias, but sony is only good for display, not computer stuffs. I had many recorder products from TDK and I would recogmend them All over again.

I have a TDK 440N too, and I but several brands of DVD-R, and none of them works, only the TDK one so far. Is there any cheap DVD-R brands that works with this burner?

I ended up with the Sony DRU510, and I have the same problem. The only brand I found that works is the Verbatim DataLifePlus. Even Sony's own brand didn't work!

hm... interesting

Seriously, I never paid attention to which brand I buy. But anyways, I randomely chose Philips +RW and Memorex +R and they work wonderously. Verbatim works too. I never TDK drive being picky with discs.
