Kids fax a valid ID and credit card to confirm??

After ordering from an online place...

>Due to fraudulent practices on the Internet we will have to request to see some identification:
>1 copy of Your I.D with the address on it
>2 Copy of two side of the cc that you used to make the Order with your Name on it.

and I can scan and email or just fax the info..

This request has "SCAM" written all over it.
Anyone had to deal with those and received a bad experience and want to share?

no matter how desperate I am, I won't send those... But I'm just wondering if anyone did and survived.

I've never heard of that one. Usually the Vendor just contacts your bank or CC company. What's the name of the vendor?

i have actually come across a couple of outfits that requested something similar...it doesn't necessarily mean that they are scammers or dishonest, BUT the potential for abuse or identity theft is too chancy for me.

personally, i would steer clear since there are plenty of other places (newegg, etc) that will accept orders in a more conventional fashion.

I have never herd of that. I agree with Xeroid PresterJohn on this one.

That is odd. I have had retailers ask for certain numbers on the back (or front) of the card. I have been asked for my credit card billing address. I have never been asked for a photocopy of anything. But I can see how some merchants might want to be extra cautious.

I've ran into this before...its not neccassarily a scam its just fraud protection. They keep on record a copy of your info incase there are some problems. Its no different than any other place keeping the copy with your signature. I'd check them out at resellerratings.com first tho
