dell orders

i ordered a 1100 inspiron from dell yesterday, and it says they take 12 days to build.. wow, does it really take that long? i was hoping to get it by/on the 25th this month but it says itll come the 28th. has anyone had any orders from dell(bcomputer purchases) come in earlier than they say? hopefully! thanks

My experience with Dell is that they tell you a longer lead time to cover their backsides. It's a good policy, IMO. I've never had anything take as long as they say and I've ordered 6 systems this year alone. They have all arrived in 3-5 days, one even said it would take 21 days and I still had it within the week. I hope it works the same for you, happy waiting!

i bought a inspiron 4100 and it didnt take that long. that is just an estimated date incase of problems. Dell should of sent you a site where you can check the status of your Laptop. i think it only took a week to get mine

Groundzero- thanks, yeah they sent me it but for 3 days now its said thats its in production, so hopefully it willg et past that haha.

jmebonner-thanks, hopefully ill get mine that fast!

oh and 2 questions about the laptop- for its GPU it says it has "Intel Extreme Graphics" and i've been reading on that and it allocates system memory for graphics memory, which is awesome the more SysMemory you have, but how fast is the gpu compared to lets say a 64meg GF4 mx420(PCI)?

also what is your opinion on getting 512 ram over the 256, would it create much of an increase in speed/function? thanks!

also, on the order status for the laptop, it says this is the step its on:
3. In Production: Tuesday, July 08, 2003
a. Kitting
b. Build
c. Testing
d. Boxing
but all of the last 4 items are grayed out like they havent been completed for 3days, counting today, im wondering if they mark them completed after they are all completed or as it goes, hope that makes sense. anyone got any ideas?

I received a laptop before the site was updated. I think they are a bit slow on status when you check online. I received the shipping confirmation and had it the next day and the shipping label showed they shipped it a day or maybe two before I relieved confirmation.
