Kids mp3 cd player - which one?

I bought an mp3/cd player a couple years ago when they first came out and i loved it - 120 songs on a cd rather than 20 is just awesome

unfortunately, i broke it and need a new one.

what's the best value in mp3/cd players right now?

my only requirement is for the player to be no more than $120; i'd prefer one i could jog w/, but that's not absolutely necessary.

mp3 players with hard drives (like the iPod) are just waaaay to expensive...

i can't afford anything above some $120, which is why an mp3/cd player would be perfect, as you can get decent ones for that price range.

however, i'm just not sure what's a good value in mp3/cd players these days, so i'd like to hear some opinions from here

If you are going on a budget I recommend the Emerson HD7088 Personal CD/MP3 Player

The Emerson HD7088 Personal CD/MP3 Player is compatible with normal CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs and CDs containing MP3 music files. It features an electronic anti-skip protection circuit to keep your music flowing smoothly and a large LCD display for track, time, MP3 directory, file, and album. Searching for MP3 files is easy with a variety of search choices including directory, file, album, track or song title.

http://www.old-time.com/misc/mp3reviews.html scroll down to the Emerson review.

I bought this mp3/cd player at Wal-Mart for $34.95. For the money, this player has wonderful features and hasn't skipped on me yet. I haven't tried jogging with it tho. The only thing I don't like about the player is that the LCD doesn't have a backlighted screen.

wow, that's pretty damn cheap, i'll have to check it out.

how's the sound quality? how's the max volume? is the battery life that bad?

i'd also use this when travelling (by car, plane, train, etc) and not just jogging, so i don't want just a tough piece of crap - i'm a little bit of an audiophile, albeit a broke one

btw, any1 have any personal experience w/ the following (which got decent reviews on various websites):

- iRiver SlimX IMP-350 -> around $110 (the max I can spend) and has gotten stellar reviews

- SonicBlue Rio Volt SP90 -> around $88 (decent reviews)

- iRiver ChromeX iMP-150 -> around $75 (decent reviews)

- Samsung Yepp MP3/Cd player -> $69

- Panasonic MP3/Cd player (i think it's the SL-SV550) -> $59.99

The sound quality is good. Volume can be turned up pretty loud on headphones. It also has a dynamic bass boost feature.

Right now I have the cd player hooked up to a small amp and going to two small bookshelf speakers and sounds really good. I am about to take the player with me on a trip. I don't exactly remember the battery life; it is normally hooked up to wall adapter. I have ran the cd player in my car with no adaptor for about 8hrs straight and it still had power.

I am an audiophile also. I bought this cd/mp3 player about 4 months ago primarily for a long flight I was going to take; but, I have enjoyed this player ever since.

Of coarse, if I had the $ I would try - iRiver SlimX IMP-350. My friend has an iRiver, but not that model and he is extremely impressed with it.

I brought a Digitech CD/MP3 player from JC Pennys.com. I think it cost about $40 dollars all together. It is a good little player, has many features.

The only thing I don't like about it is the battery life. The batteries only last about 3hrs. Battery life is something u should consider when making ur choice.

The Digitech has some skipping problems, but not enough for me to ditch it. So I dont think it will be good for jogging.

Yes, that is the next thing on my toy list: a portable MP3/CD player. Gotta be cheap. I saw the Emerson at walmart. That one, or some other Emerson, was only $30 at the local Walmart. I'm not real concerned about battery life, as I will be putting it in my car, plugged into the cig lighter & stereo (yes, I still have a tape deck in my '95!). I do need good skip control. Something with a good cache should do...

ok, i'm thinking that i'm gonna invest a bit more money than i expected... however, the way i see it, i'd rather spend $40 extra and have a player that works well, has the features i want and lasts, rather than saving the money only to get a piece of crap that will be unusable or break after a short time.

right now, i'm thinking i'll prob. get the panasonic SLSW960V portable cd/mp3/AM/FM player.

it's made for jogging, so it's supposed to have great skip/shock protection and be generally indestructible, heat/water resistant, good battery life, ID3 tags, decent sound quality and plays cd's, mp3's, and has an AM/FM tuner. as an added bonus, i can also get a free jogging belt thing for it for free.

price: $90.00

any opinions/suggestions?

and, besides best buy where i can pick it up (no shipping costs), any1 know of a reliable place to get it for mabe cheaper?\

Edit-------->

Turns out this thing DOESN'T have ID3 tags, dunno how i messed that up, so i think this thing is out of the picture for that kind of money. so, i'm still looking.
