Kids rdram - now or later

i have a pc w/ 256 MB of Kingston PC1066 RDRAM installed... the memory is extremely fast, and when i bought the system over a year ago, i told myself i'd get 256 MB more when the price went down...

i bought the kingston pc1066 rdram at $74/128MB...

today, over a year later, the lowest price for kingston pc1066 rdram is $68/128MB - the price has barely budged!

after debating w/ myself, i've decided i should prob. take the chance and buy samsung pc1066 rdram ($49/128MB) and have both brands in my system.

i emailed asus and they said it's not a good idea to mix manufacturers, but i emailed samsung and they said that kingston uses samsung chips and that it will probably work.

seeing as rdram is probably in deep *** now that intel is going w/ DDR, i'm not sure what to do.

buy the samsung rdram now, risk it not working, and pay $98 or wait and hope prices will go down?

will they go down w/ a company in trouble? or go up cause they r not makin the ram any more?

any advice is appreciated

I doubt you will see the prices drop much, if at all, before they go back up. There is no increase in consumer demand, so the price is not expected to do much.

RDRAM is not what I'd call a "dying technology", but it's definitely been phased out of the new technology market on the end-user side (DDR400 kinda spanked it).

IMO, get it now because things aren't going to budge much...and they may get worse!

I dont know anything really about RDRam but with allother types of ram i have never had problem mixing manufactures. I am funning a 512mb Xeriox(yes the copy people) and a stick of Kingston all DDR. I have never come across a problem.

I don't expect RDRAM prices to go down at all, since nothing new is using it.

I'd buy it now.
