Systems looking for AMD XP deals, help

I am building a new computer with a limited budget, I bought everything and now it is time for cpu..my point was since cpu prices were going down..it was(!) reasonable to buy it as a final step... BUT
if you are watching prices at newegg, i am sure you know the famoust Xp1700
it was $41 two weeks ago (when I start building the computer)
last week it was $44
yesteday $46
today $48 !!!
what is going on, Intel introduced HT 3200 this monday .. so slower cpus should go down..

I even sent email to newegg about this situation, the reply was really kind , I appreciate that...although the price issue is confusing(may be just for me ) their support and services are #1

might just be a price fluctation. The XP is already really budgeted. Its taking over the Duron line of the value plus holding the medium line while letting the Opteron take the top rung. The price will probably go to 50 and hover there. Lowering some risign some.

Well, I think it is about people seeing the price of the new Intels and realizing that with a DLT3C JIUHB for under $50, they can run [i]almost[i] as swiftly for a hel of a lot less. I just installed one of the two I got from newegg last week. It is running at 2289 MHz default at under 1.6 volts, and I haven't even dialed in the system yet.

That chip will handily beat a 2.8gig P4 at those speeds.

overclocking is a chip by chip thing . some do well some don't . it also depends on alot of other things other than the cpu itself . ram , motherboard all play a roll . so just get what ya like is the best advice . if you are really on a budget get the 1700 . if you got 100$ to spend i would say get a 2500 barton . they also over clock well but have more on die cache so in some programs they will run better .
