Can i get some advice on paypal
I have heard some horror stories so i have stayed away from paypal. But lately I have had probs with
email, lots of probs, so i want to get a paypal account.
Right now, pending other advice, my thinking is to open a new account at my bank and deposit a couple
hundred dollars and only use this for paypal. I am hoping that my liability in a total scam would be limited
only to whatever funds are in that account.
Does this make sense? Or is there a better way?
Also, I am in Canada and deal with Canadian and American forums, can I have either a us or can account
and just use the one account to pay in Can or US dollars, or do I have to have 2 separate accounts, one us
and one canadian?
thanks
Don

Sounds like an OK plan. I have had a PayPal for years with not a single problem (knock on wood). It is linked to my main bank account and cc.

I, as well, have had a Paypal for a long time and have had no trouble whatsoever. I would recommend it to anyone.

Well, my credit card is good for $15,000 so i dont want to use that. And my main account, it can go up to $5,000 sometimes, even though its not all my money, but if its there its vulnerable to scam artists.
So I dont want to use my credit card or main bank account or my debit card, all for the same reason, too much money in the account.. So if I have a US account, separate, and keep it around the $200 mark, then hopefully that is all the scam artists can get at, least that is my thinking, hope i am right cuz unless i get better advice that is what i an gonna do.

Yep, Ive use them for over two years with no problems, have my bank and cc account linked. I was even offered a paypal debit card by them so I can use the account through atm's.

Nork,
I have heard that people want to avoid Paypal because of their 'service charges' but I think the smallish fees they charge for using a credit card are worth the help they provide if you have a problem with a seller/troll. If you only receive cash payments via paypal, the 'service fees' are negated.
I've used Paypal virtually since they started, with no problems or hacks into my account. (don't anyone take this as a challenge, though).
I would recommend that you get a Paypal account. Your email must be a valid, verified email, so do not use any email accounts that you're currently having problems with.

I have had one problem with paypal some time ago and closed my account due to someone getting into my account and taking about $250 out of my bank. I use C2it quite a bit but I also have reopened a paypal account since ebay took over it, but I do not link my cc to it and if I ever have the problem again my bank can reverse the charge(payment) to paypal. Since I reopened it I have not had one problem but I due suggest change of password ever once in awhile to be safe.

I have never had a problem with paypal. They have atually helped twice with deadbeat sellers. They got me my $$ back both times.

Thanks for the info and help, people!! Anita, i just want to make sure you are happy with your software you got from me, also, thanks for sharing your info with me!
I went to the paypal site and found that using one account you can pay in Canadian or US funds, which i was wondering if I had to open 2 accounts, but i dont. So i still think I will go on the net tonite and open a US checking account, transfer $200 US into it from my main checking account and then use that new account for paypal, that way I limit my exposure to only the money in that new account. Should I have more than $200 in it I can, via the net, transfer the rest to my main checking account and if I have less than $200 I can do the reverse and paypal nor anyone can touch my main checking account that way.
So, unless I hear otherwise from someone, that is what I will do.
Hearing your views makes me a lot less leery of paypal, plus the fact that ebay now owns it, i feel a bit better in that respect as well. Hope I am right about that!
thanks
Don
