I thought DELL was honest!

While scoping Dells site for a good deal, I found this !

About 3/4 of the way down you will find this statement:

FREE 6 Months of AOL Internet Access
No ISP requested [subtract $79]
FREE 6 Months of EarthLink Internet Access

So according to DELL 6 months of free internet access means you MUST PAY $79.00 !!

I personally thought FREE meant FREE, NADA, ZILCH, ZERO. I do NOT think that "free" means "Pay 79.00".

Vern

Actually I think it means that if you choose either of the ISPs, its free. But if you do not want to use their internet packages, you will have to pay.

Basically I believe it boils down to the rebates given by those 2 ISPs resulting in the lowered cost of the system.

NO it means that for no "free 6 months ISP" you SAVE 79.00. If you select NO ISP the cost is 79.00 less. If you get the "free 6 months" it will cost you $79.00.

I dont think that Dells definition of "free" is correct.

This is true for lots of options. For example, sometimes they offer a free monitor or CD-RW upgrade, but if you take them out completely, you get a credit. Frankly, I've never seen an $80 credit for not taking AOL. If they had offered that when we bought our 4550, I'd have taken it.

It's like when they have a buy one, get one free sale, but they actually let you take the free one!!

Sure the IPS thing is odd, but you can't bet the price of a Dell for a simple PC. Selling a nice system for $499.00 ($399.00AR) - there is nothing dishonest about that, IMO
