Kids refurbished monitors?

Hey all, any of you have experience with refurbished monitors? I'm thinking of getting a dell 17" LCD (171FPb) off their site refurbed for around 350...or I can try my luck on ebay and get a new one. I'm cautious because even though it's Dell, and they back it up with the warranty, it was still returned for a reason.

the one thing about refurb is you never know if it was repaired or was just returned . some refrubs are just returned open , but they have to sell it as refurbed i think .also i bet if you hunt around you might find it for that and not be a refurb .

er.. I'd get it from Dell and not from nikb, sorry nikb...

I have used refurb comp stuff for a while, and none of them have failed me yet. From 21 inch sony monitors to klipsch speakers.

Very happy with them all. And since you are buying from Dell, you get the warranty. And refurb isn't always returns, it could be some little tiny scratch on the back of the monitor, which just makes it "not perfect" appearance wise, but doesn't affect the display one bit.

My 21 inch sony was brand new, refurb, why? because there was a scratch on the back of the monitor housing.... 2 inches long, maybe 1/8 inch deep.. got it for almost half the price.....I can live with that =)

My cousin got a 21 inch CRT refurbed from Dell. Two weeks after the 90 day warrenty expired it crapped out on him. It would have cost him more to repair it then it originally cost him.

I also have had problems with 2 17" CRT's from Dell. I don't have a problem with refurbs but next time for a monitor, I might buy new.
