Rebate complaint letter advice
It took me many phone calls and five months to get a friggin $10 rebate back for a CD-ROM drive I purchased from CompUSA. So I've decided to write a letter and complain. Normally, I'd just take the money and run.
Anyway, even though the rebate did not come from CompUSA, they're the ones who advertise the after-rebate price, so as far as I'm concerned, it's their responsibility for hooking up with suppliers that can't handle rebates.
Here's my question. Should I address the letter to customer service or the CEO? I know it's going to end up in the bin, but I'll feel better sending it somewhere somebody will actually read it.

As long as your spending your time writing a letter, you might as well get maximum exposure.

I echo what ragtop says, send them to both. I had a problem when I bought my new truck about 5 years ago. I wrote a letter and sent it to 3 different people at the dealership. Luckily for me it was read by all three and they handled the situation.
You'd be suprised, if they value their company and your business they'll at least read it. If you are really lucky, they'll do somehting about it.
Good Luck!

Just by way of follow up, I sent a letter to the CEO and recieved an apologetic letter with a $10 gift card. Oh well, I'll take it. Got my rebate and another $10.

cool deal...my method of tying the note to a rock and depositing it in someones living room via the large window would have been more cathartic but your way did net some cash.
Still, think of the racket these guys have going. Rip off millions per year in promised rebates....turn down many, many, many perfectly legit rebates, delay others while investing the cash, and then when someone has had all he can take, send em $10 to smooth it over a bit, lol.
Was it a form letter?

SOUP BUG
A passenger on a train visited the dining car and ordered a bowl of soup.
When delivered, it had a fly in it and the outraged passenger wrote to the
president of the railroad, expressing his dismay and vowing never to ride
that railroad again.
Then he received a letter from the president, apologizing profusely,
vowing that this was an unprecedented occurrence and explaining the steps
that had been taken to insure it never happened again.
The passenger was almost persuaded until he discovered that the envelope
also contained a small slip of paper containing his name and address and
the handwritten notation: "Send this jerk the bug letter."

I would have send that letter with the enclosed note to my local newspaper, that would have been a major disaster for the railroad company.
