Kids 1800 XP Thoroughbred B and K7S6A

I plugged the above processor into an ECS K7S6A moboard with NO results.

Can anyone tell me if that board only accepts Palomino processors or just what is the problem? Could the processor be dead ?

(Plugged a Duron 1300 back in and the puter works fine)

P.S. Took the 1800 out of a working machine and of course assume that I didn't bugger it up - but then again............

Help if you can please.

does it not boot at all ? does it let you go into the bios ? how old is the motherboard ? what revision is it ? you might have to flash the bios if it is an older revision .

it could be possible that the CPU is dead. Have you tried that Cpu in another computer? Now I wouldn't think that you need a bios update since that mobo supports that processor and its a new board. Have you made sure that the Heatsink is on properly. and like Omar said does it power up, beep, or do anything

Thanks for the help guys. I found out the problem (I think).

My processor is a "Model 8" 1800XP.

According to the AMD website, the K7S6A only supports a "Model 6" - even though it will take up to and including a 2100XP. Looks like I'm out of luck.

For what it's worth, I've had very good luck with those boards. No problems at all (using the Duron's)

Yep, unfortunately. AMD says that with the latest bios update (1.0f) the board accepts type "6" Athlon, but no mention is made of the board when you look at type "8" processors. Strange eh?

I wonder what the big difference is with the type "8" ?
