Kids advice on how much to sell my computer for

I want to buy a new computer so i have to sell my old one off to afford it. I have no idea what to sell it for so i need some advice here...it's a compaq presario 5002CA....it's been upgraded. It would come with a new monitor (17 inch envision). These are the specs:

256mb SDRAM
80GB hardrive
850mhz duron processor (never been overclocked)
4x cdrw (plus the regular cd rom drive...im not sure what speed)
4 USB ports
Nvidia GeForce 2MX video card

..this is what i can remember off the top of my head. So can anyone give me a value on that? I'm canadian so if your estimate is in US dollars please say so! thanks

Felicia

Well Im probably off...but when I price it out as parts, I come up with around maybe $300 (US dollars) or alittle more if Im being generous.
This IS used....it IS a compaq....most of these parts are fairly obsolete...I would mostly want it for hard drive, monitor, and memory.
The video and cdrw would be used as upgrade for older worse computer.
As a starter system for someone who doesnt do much more than surf and email it would be a great starter system and you might find someone willing to pay $350 to $450 (US dollars)
Sorry hard to gauge...depends on the target market.
Good Luck with whatever you do with it!

Yeah most likely someone would buy it just to part it out for the Harddrive and memory.

to bad you need the cash to get a new pc cause you could donate it and get a bigger write off on your taxes than you can get cash in hand i am sorry to say . i would have to go with everybody else 300$ is about tops with the monitor but ask 350$ and " settle" for 300 this why they feel good like they got a deal and you get what u want out of it and all is good .

ok..thanks guys! I will go with around $300-350. I have another question: I have access to buy computer parts ...like new video card or processors for really cheap. So I;m wondering if it's worth while to buy some and install it into this comp before i sell it to possibly get a little more value out of it.

I would absolutely advise against that.
Compaq is known for being very propriatary!
They use odd setups, odd sizes, special components, etc, anything to make it hard for you to go through anyone but them for replacement parts or upgrades...
that would cause you much aggravation in long run.
Build from scratch...we will help you.
It really is not that hard and there is a wealth of knowledge and experience at your fingertips on this forum!
If you can get $300 for that system, that is a very good base for your system to start with.
I also suggest not buying from a major name again, there are few that give you your money's worth and that use easily swapped out parts.

I agree Compaq basically there system dont have very good amount of space when it comes to upgrading not only that PSU are so darn cheap! And knowing alot system ask for alot of power so soon down the road you will get into trouble I would get what I can get. ANd dont bother upgrading
