DVD Player recommendations

This might belong in community instead of Buyer Guidance since I'm not asking about a computer part but -

I'd like some recommendations on a DVD player. I'm looking for info on the kind you hook to a TV, not a computer. Right now I'm looking at the Panasonic DVD-S35K since Amazon has it for $90 with free shipping. I really need to stay at around that price since that's about all my little budget will allow.

If any of you know of any sites that do DVD-Player comparisions I'd love to hear about them. I'm new to the market and would love any suggestions you have.

Thanks,
Scott Tiger

Scott:

Unless you have HDTV, for which you ought to get a progressive scan player, all DVD players are about the same. They'll produce the same quality picture and all can play audio discs (some will play MP3s). It's only a matter of features after that.

That model is progressive scan but you will see no difference between it and a $50 model on your conventional TV. My suggestion? Go to Best Buy and look at the lower end models.

The most differences are in audio quality (digital) and mp3 decoding.

Some won't notice the difference, some will.

Good point. The audio on a decent DVD will be 5.1 surround sound, but unless you have a system that supports that, it all sounds the same coming out of your TV speakers. We bought a SS system earlier this year with DVD/receiver and it's really great.

Why would you want a dvd player? I think BetaMax is the way to go

I appreciate the suggestions guys (except you airman97.. :-)..

Since I just have a regular TV (albiet a 36" one) I think I'll go with one of the low-end $50 players. I just don't need the extra features.

Thanks again..
