New case problem...need help

Ok, maybe its me or maybe its the case.

I ordered some stuff from "Bilsystem" who really has soem killer prices. Hopefully I am not finding out the hard way that he just has cheap crapola.

One thing I ordered was 2 cases http://store.yahoo.com/bilsystem-store/noname2.html

Ok, ok, yes they are cheap but they are for budget builds.

So I throw in the motherboard etc and do my W98se build....the motherboard is an all-in-one with an AMR modem.

As usual I decided to do the Windows install first, THEN add the modem. So I do the windows build and I run the autoinstall driver disk....oops I had forgotten to put the modem in..no prob. After the disk finished I go to put the modem in.

Here's the problem. I put the modem in, I pick up my screwdriver and THERES NO HOLE for the screw to go into!

There are indentions where the holes are supposed to be for the pci cards but the holes didnt open.

Is this a manufacturing problem or am I supposed to poke them out somehow?? Obviously they cant possibly have threads in them.

I pulled out my other case and low and behold its the same thing.

This is the second time I ordered from Bilsystem and looks like maybe the second time I get burned.

is this something new case makers are doing or is it just a defect?

If I have to ship these back is there any way possible I can avoid eating the shipping fees? Last order I did had like 3 bad modems out of 5 etc.

Any ideas??

JP

Hey John,
Do you have something for a close up shot of the case inside by the pci area? If thier are indentations might be possible to take a dremel and drill the approperiate places out.

Well, if you have a drill and a bit, you could make some holes. Though you'll most likely need to use nuts to hold the screws in. And you'll need to take the parts out, as I personally wouldn't do such a modification while the parts are in there.

I'd have to say that this is NOT something new. Sounds like they may like to deal in junk returns/factory rejects to me. Bummer, man.

Some cases have a external plate on the back that holds everything in place (especially the cheap ones) They are usually held in place by 2 screws. If the cases don't have them either get out a dremel, or return them. Personally I would just drill the holes myself. Alot cheaper then returning them. Just wondering if you ordered from them before and they were bad, why did u give them more business? Tigerdirect.com is good on plices and I've never had a problem with them. Check out resellerratings.com...

I have a cheap case that looks just like it. It had a little piece the goes over the cards to hold them in. I'll give a pic here in a second.

No wait, you are absolutely right techteen and MDS. It has the little thing that holds the cards down. Man, I rarely if ever have used this sort of case so I totally blanked out on that one, lol.

Ok, just ignore me now, lol.

I take back any implications about bilsystem THIS time, but they did screw my last order up, lol

Ill go hide now.

I concur with the above comments....I know you already have these and you probably dont want to have to send them back, but if you do and you still need budget cases, you might want to check out these. I posted them a couple days back and the only reason I'm mentioning them is that they are really nice cases and I've dealt with the brand you have and they really are cramped and shoddy.
These are thin but rolled edges, not too flimsy and come with full set of thumbscrews, case screws, mobo standoffs, a cool little case speaker, and front usb and speaker/mic ports. Hard to beat for $20 shipped!

Mine came with generic 500 watt PSU that worked fine on my fussy K7S5A.
Good Luck....I appreciate all the posts you've made...you've helped me and alot of others.

oops that was quick!...glad ya figured it out afterall!!!

These links are now dead or overpriced.
