512MB PC2100 DDR -- Best deal??

Just got my Dell Dimension 2350 desktop, and I'm looking for more memory.

I need 512MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM NON ECC. I've passed on the Tiger Direct MIR thing, Crucial.com has a drop in for $66 and free shipping. Kingston wants about $90. Is there a difference between this Crucial and the "generic" or "housebrand" listed on pricewatch and sharkyextreme for ~$45?

Thanks!

Yes, there's definitely a difference between Crucial and "housebrand." One word: Quality. Get the Crucial, it's worth it.

comsumertalks - I just bought a Dell 2350 and it came with the standard 128mb - I took it out and order 1024mb of Crucila - cost me $127.00 at the time (there was a $25.00 off special) and it is so worth the money - very nice ram with NO problems

BTW, the 1024 makes this baby scream!

Well it'll cost $132 for the pair, and with free shipping, I guess that's about the same as saving the $25.

*I hate when places do that! I was at QFC here in Seattle and found something in the discount cart with a $2 off coupon. Yay! EXCEPT they took the normal $3.99 up to $5.69 so I was only saving 30 freakin' cents.

Anyone else have any advice on the memory? I'll be buying this weekend.

How many memory slots does the mobo have. If it has 2 or more you can get two 256mb sticks pretty cheap. In fact I've seen them for either Free(after MIR) or under $5(after MIR).

Thanks for the Kinston link!

It has 2 slots, one has 256 from DELL. I can't see spending money and getting less than 1024 and then unloading the factory pull on eBay.. or even just getting one 512 stick for now. Adding a 256 just doesn't seem cost effective.

So I guess now the question is:

Kingston or Crucial?

BTW : Never throw anything out! Make it into jewelry.

Crucial is sometimes cheaper at the expense of a "1-yr Warranty"

Kingston has a lifetime warranty..
