Cordless Phone Advice Needed

I'm looking for 3 or 4 cordless phones (land line) and there is alot to chose from these days.
I've noticed the intro of the 5 ghz phones, along with a hefty price tag.
I would think that there would be some pretty good deals on the 2.4 ghz phones, perhaps doing the staples or OD, OM $$$ off coupons.
Last cordless phone I bought was a Vtech some 5 years ago, great phone then but i've heard there quality has gone down since then.
What I would like to have is a single line, 2.4 ghz or better with a digital answering machine built in. Also I like the "base" unit idea with optional handsets that can be added on.
Range as always is the most important feature.
Anyhow, any recommendations would be great.

Thanks all
WB

My wife and I have the new Vtech and find it to be great product.

Clear, easy to use, and the battery life is very good.
Oh ya and most important it gives you alot more bang for the buck then most. You could always check out consumer reports they cover phones at lest once a year..

Vtech phones are about the best as far as cordless phones go. I have a 900mhz and it isnt the greatest (not a Vtech, I think its Bell South), and moms old Vtechs blow it away. The range on them are also really nice. I can be talking out in her backyard and the base is in the front of the house.

As to the particular model of phone, I can’t help you. However, here is something you may want to consider; are you using/planning on using a wireless network in the same location as these phones? If so, I believe there are issues between interference of the two (mostly that of the LAN). Sometimes the particular channel the phone will pick can block out the signal of the access point and sometimes there will not be any noticeable difference.

ILC

Clarification: 2.4 ghz phones can interfere with the 2.4 ghz wireless networks. Purchasing phone/wireless systems which operate at different hertz will not cause problems.

Ive thought about going wireless with the laptop. Good thing you mentioned something like that, ILC. I'll have to keep that in mind.

I bought this Vtech model without the answering machine and it was less than half the price! I dont know why adding this extra feature would make it so much more expensive. This model is great, clarity and function wise. The thing that caught my eye was the speakerphone that is also on the handset, very handy when you are on hold with tech support . You can probably find a better price online but heres the link.

Like SNUG said, Vtech is the best bang for your buck without much problems. But if you are running some kind of business, every company I have seen use nothing else but Panasonic. I have one that lasted over half a decade and the only reason it broke was because I lost my temper and threw it at someone .

I have seen more V-tech's returned and listened to more complaints than I care to think about! I've also seen more people buy extended protection plans after owning a V-tech, so that it wouldn't cost anything to replace it when it quite working within the year!

We had a discussion a while back either here or at the old site and the brand a majority of the ones who posted had and recommended was the Panasonic's!

I also own a Panasonic and even though it is 2 years old, I have not found one with better battery life or standby time. I even caught myself quite a ways away from home and still talking on the phone! (Chasing a run-a-way dog! )
