Single use credit card number

Rather than using your real credit card number to shop online, you can use a secure, free one-time use number instead. You will receive a unique number that is linked to your actual Card account each time you shop.
Ask your credit card issuer about “substitute” or “single-use” credit card numbers. This new technology allows you to use your credit card without putting your real account number online, protecting it from abuse by “hackers” or dishonest employees of the seller.

I use this one. It is fast & easy.

Its too much trouble to use. Until they come up with a program that requires less(instead of more) work, I dont think people will use it.

hey, if I see a charge i didnt make FDIC takes care of me. You messing with US government stealing my #'s. They write it off-I pay nothing. And the little 10 year old hacker goes to jail. That simple. No need for a long winded solution. Folks just need to watch their credit card bills and then you know if someone stole yer #'s.

Actually, the initial setup takes about ˝ hr. Using the program to generate a single use number takes a few seconds, & requires opening the program, then a single mouse click. You need only insert the maximum charge allowed on this purchase, then a small floating window appears containing the generated information. The new number is dragged into the appropriate field on the order form.

IMO, this enables purchasing from questionable sellers, who have unknown reputation.
The extra minute taken to generate & insert the single use number is not a hassle if one compares it with the consequences of having fraudulent charges applied to your card.

I'm waiting for the retinal scanner peripheral for my computer. This will allow me a secure on-line experience. Unless of course someone plucks out my eyeball.
