A bad experience with newegg
Well I wish I could say the same for newegg, but alas another company has conceded to profit margins at the expense of their customers. Last summer I ordered components to build 2 workstations. I was really happy with my purchase, and I had one DVD burner that went bad. It was a LiteON SHM-165H65 and the drive spun out of control and shattered one of my son's games. They replaced the burner with no problem. I had to pay for shipping, and buy a new game which I though was a little bogus, but I accepted it, and newegg was nice and prompt about making the exchange.
So I purchased the componenets to build a new server at the end of December. All of the stuff arived earlier this week. The motherboard was big 12x13, so I made sure to buy a case that would support it. The case while technically capable of holding the board was incompatible because I couldn't get the 5.25 drive bay back in (it had to be removed to mount the board). The power supply was a EPS model which the board specs never mentioned was required, but one of the users mentioned that this would be necessary. Unfortunately, the one I ordred (I figured they were all the same) didn't have one of the necessary connectors to power the board. I had to go out and purchase a separate case and supply. I tried to RMA the original parts that didn't work, and they charged me a restocking fee.
Now that I've got a case and supply that is compatible with my components I figure I'm in business. Unfortunately, the motherboard is bad, and upon further inspection looks like something that was opened and physically damaged prior to being shipped to me. So I contacted newegg and was basically told that I was out of luck, and to contact the manufacturer. Bear in mind that this stuff isn't even a week old, all of the problems I've had, and they've sent me bad equipment. Their stance was that it was non-returnable. It is mentioned, if you navigate through the tabs on their site to the waranty information for the board. Buyer beware!!!! After much argument they conceded to give me an RMA, but would not under any circumstances cross ship me a new board. Huh??? The one they sent was previously opened, damaged, and they tried to jerk me aroud sending me to the manufacturer, and they're unwillng to send me a new board until they get the old one back. Did I mention I just dropped over $2500 with these guys in addition to the $3000 I spent last summer. So much for "eggcelent customer service!"
So now I'm waiting, probably a week for the replacement board before I can even install and test all of the other components I bought to make sure they are good. In the past I was happy with their service, but it seems that they have abandoned their customers in pursuit of the almighty buck.
