Kids Shipping a computer

I have an extra system lying around which serves me little purpose. It's a k6/2-500 with onboard video, small hard drive, etc. that I don't use at all. If I was to sell this online, what would be the best way to go about shipping it? Can I just throw it in a big box with some styrofoam peanuts and send it fedex/ups/whatever or is there a better way?
Thanks!

you should double-box it and try to pack it so the contents don't shift about too much.

be aware that even if you insure the shipment, ups/fedex will not honor a claim if you don't have the proper packaging (original cartons) or if it's not professionally done.

Fed Ex or USPS is the way I go. I would use something to make the styrofoam peanuts from shifting. The case can slide to the outside of the box with all the peanuts on the other side and it is just like having no padding at all. Two things I've done is to use plastic grocery store bags to pad the box, but it takes a lot of bags. Another thing you can do is to fill the bags with peanuts, to keep them from shifting. I've never shipped a system in any other box than a computer case box. You might go to a computer shop and see if they'll give you or sell you a box that a case came in. They may have extras from builds they have done for people.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I do not have the original carton as the system is like five years old (maybe more). How much would it cost to have it "professionally" packaged? Is it even worth it at that point for a computer that's only worth like $100?

The best way I've found was if you have the original styrofoam packing that the case was shipped with. They aren't peanuts, but are usually two pieces of styrofoam that 'cradle' the case and IMO work better than peanuts.

EDIT: Never mind, just saw your above post...

no for something that cheap, not worth professional packing.

inside packaging materials (styro peanuts) is KEY though! esp on the bottom since the pc will easily 'settle' to the bottom when the box is moved.

Thanks guys! I'll take a trip over to a local computer store and see if I can get a box. Bagging the peanuts is a really good idea and I will deffinately do that. Anything else I need to know?

What's the point in insuring it if they won't honor the claim?
