Kids Toshiba Tecra...good laptop???

Venturing to buy my first laptop and was looking at the Tecra M1. Its a bit pricey, probably mainly do that it just was released, but I want to buy something that won't require me to make a new purchase a year from now. I don't need a desktop substitue because I have a great one now, but I'm searching for a good, powerful and sturdy machine that can handle some heavy programs (DWMX,PSP or PS) too. If anyone has had some experience w/ Toshiba laptops and would like 2 share would be great. Thanks

I HAVE A SIMILAR POST IN ANOTHER FORUM. I REALIZED I PROBABLY SHOULD NOT HAVE POSTED THIS TOPIC HERE. I WAS NOT TRYING TO INTENTIALLY DOUBLE POST. I'VE ASKED A MOD TO CLOSE THE OTHER THREAD, SINCE THERE ARE MORE THOROUGH RESPONSES HERE

I have a Toshiba Satelite 1400 Series, its a celly 1.2 ghz with 256mb memory 30gig hard drive cdrom, nic and its nice! Toshibas are good laptops and i recommend them. Might want to consider one of the less expensive ones. Several of them will handle you needs just as well as a pricy one.

In tecra9000 series some new glue was used (and distributed at least in europe) that caused the entire laptop to fall apart.
That wasn't very sturdy.

The previous models seem to have been very good.

I have a satellite pro 6100, which is good. But if you're referring to sturdy as in 'won't break if it accidentally falls' then sp/s isn't a good choice.

I don't know about the M1 model or anything newer than the t9000 since it's the latest model our company got (and probably won't get another because of the bad experience with it).

And b t w, this is considered double posting.

Actually I did not do that intentionally. When browsing other forums within this BB I thought I had posted this original message in the wrong place. I was not sure if users had the delete function or not. So I have to apologize about that.

Thank You both for the feedback. I'm going to take those suggestions in making a decision. I probably won't be making the purchase for another month to month and a half. Hopefully I will find some store that maybe has both models so I can get a look and feel. The only reason why I was considering the more expensive one was to have a laptop with all the goodies because I have no plans to make any upgrades (aside from memory) any time soon nor will I be purchasing another unit for about 4-5 years (longer if the machine holds up well).
