Unforgettable Memory

I have been looking for the past few months for some really good memory. Currently I'm running an ASUS A7V8X with 512MB of Samsung Original Memory, Athlon XP2100+, and a Chaintech GT61 "SE" TI4600. This ram is decent, but I'm looking to upgrade to a better memory and twice as much. Also, I'm looking to migrate it to (possibly) an ASUS P4PE Black Pearl(for a second system) with a 2.4b 533 proc. I've looked at Corsair, XMS, and Crucial. Are there any good brands, decent deals, or both? I am willing to pay an extra $25 per chip or so for great quality but I need help on this issue.

I'm pretty satisfied with 333 but wonder if 400 works better, even though most pre-hype suggested that 400 worked worse initially. 333 has worked good but I have looked through all those and Corsair has had some bad reviews. All have had some bad reviews, so I want to know what is best.

I always thought that Mushkin RAM had a fine reputation.

um.....if the memory is working, why upgrade it? If you're using DDR2100 @ Cas 2.5 133bus and DDR4000 @ Cas 2.5 133bus, both will be the same speed.

You haven't mentioned what your goals are here, but if you're not going to crank up the front side bus, or muck with other memory timings, what's the point?

Generic DDR is no slower than top of the line Mushkin if both are set to the same settings.

My 2cents: Don't waste the money.

I've seriously considered Crucial.
My goal is that I'm going for a second system. I'm going to continue using what I've got, but build that P4Pe system as well. I'm currently using a true 333 bus and will be using (temp) the new memory in this system and then going to the P4PE. Thanks for all your help. Is there a certain type of Crucial that works better (or faster) than the other?

CRUCIAL MICRON 512MB 64x64 PC 2700 DDR RAM $75.00 free ship at Newegg. This is the one I've eyed for a while.

I tried the generic route...

I have some Corsair sitting right here that needs to be RMA'd.....
Crucial is the ONLY way to go nowadays....
NEVER had a problem with it.
