Norton Antivirus Recommendation

My son's 90-day subscription (2002) that came with the Dell is up. Since it was a trial subscription, the renewal is $25 (ouch).

I've found retail NAV 2003 runs about $30 or so at the stores, or under $15 online. But the cheap online ones are OEM (not sure what that means).

Any suggestions on which way to go? Renew, upgrade or alternatives?

THe OEM version is what came with the Dell. They are typically 90 days after first install, then one year after that. That renewal sounds high. The last one I did was $15.

I would suggest the retail version. Here is a link to Amazon where you can get it for $20, Free if you can claim an upgrade.

Like Chapmc said.

Also, be aware that you could buy VirusScan Home Edition 7.0 and use the ownership of each to qualify for an upgrade to the other. Both will be free after rebates.

Better yet, you could pick up Norton Internet Security 2003 and VirusScan and the two will be $10 after rebates. NIS contains full versions of NAV and Personal Firewall.

Use your Amex card and the coupon code MAPAMEXCARDS for $10 off your order. Or any card and the coupon code MAPAMEXCBLUE for $5 off. Better yet, apply for the Amazon card and get $20 off the order and 0% till the rebates come in.

Norton's upgrade rebate says it may not be used with OEM versions.
