I would definitely suggest an nforce-2 chipset over any other... Unless you want something older and slower.

Nivida

Ok so the Nivida is faster the the VIA or what is the benefit? If i need to go with the nivia then Abit is the way to go or msi or asus? I know these are all good boards but i hate to get something with a noticable bottleneck. Thanks!

I like ASUS with Epox being my second choice. I've always used these two, and have been pleased with my experiences. nForce-2 is the next generation.
There's not much point getting the DDR400, as it does run faster. But . running faster means it's running out of sync with the cpu. This actually lowers the computers overall performance. With ram prices being what they are, I get ram one step above my proccessor (i.e. TbredB->DDR333, Barton->DDR400). Not for the purpose of running at the higher mHz, but to get a lower clock latency, which will increase your performance.

Or will the gigabyte board hold its own?
The answer to that is, probably, but nforce will provide you with the absolute latest technology.

If you get any of those good name brands, you'll probably be happy unless you just happen to get a bad one from the factory.
