Thoroughbred vs Palomino

Can some of you more advanced Comp. Geeks
please explain the difference between these AMD Cpu's.

I just ordered my first AMD 2000 Palomino
Paid a little extra for it so what do I get for my money?
Thanks for all of your tech tips folks, best forum I've
found.

i'm sorry to break it to you sevenal.. you get a lower quality chip. The thoroughbred is a much better core. thoroughbred is .13 micron and palomino is .18. the 2000 of palomino runs as well as thoroughbred 2000 at stock speed, but for overclocking the palomino is about at its limit. I bought a 2100 before i knew about cores and got a palomino =/ I was only able to stably oc it 52 mhz.

I guess the palomino costs more because there is less of a demand for it so they have to cover their losses.

This will tell you a little. I am sorry, but the Thoroughbreds are the processors that are more desirable. Maybe you can cancel and get the T-Bred. The TBred B is the better of the two (for OCing).

I'm glad you like the forum. I hope you feel the same after reading the above.

OK Thanks

Well the retailer I bought from listed the cpu's in a manor
that led me to believe the Palamino was the better ( I thought)
The 1800 thoroghbred was $67 .13 micro / Palomino 2000 $78
Guess i interpreted it incorrectly.
Anyway This is a stock machine (no OC) another vamped up cow for a friend.
Im still cutting my teeth, when it comes to PC building.
You guys still rule!
I just need to ask questions before my ordering?

I don't plan on Overclocking, so I got the cheaper Palomino version of the XP1800+. But The T-breds aren't that much more expensive.

Actually it makes more sense that the Palomino core would cost more, but not for that reason, some motherboards are not capable of running T-Bred cores, so rather then upgrade your motherboard, you just order the palomino core that you know will run, even if it's at a bit of a higher price.

Also T-bred number starts with AXDA, however you don't know until you actually recieve it, or can see it (unless you call/email the company first to find out what one it is.

RicheemxX,
The link I posted above describes how the to read the serial numbers for each line of XPs to see if what you have.

The actual core on the Tbreds is larger than the pallys.
