Looking For a n LCD 17" or 18.1"

Any good buys these days? Is there really that much of a noticible difference between an 17' and 18.1"...?
as always... T H A N K S

Office Depot has the SVA 17" for $363.65 and try coupon code 90212800 to save $20 off a $100 purchase and then mail in the $75 rebate. $268.65 is the final price after rebate and coupon and instant discount.

I don't know how good the monitor is.

Dell and Gateway 18" LCDs were on sale for slightly less than $400 but I am waiting for them to drop to sub-$300. I just don't know if this brand is good enough.

Bigger is always, well, bigger... The optimal resolution for those flat panels are 1280x1024 so when the icons appear small on a 17", they might look back to normal readable size on an 18". Depending on what you do, that extra space would allow you to stretch a window to comfortable viewing size without having to change fonts and other settings. You're investing that much in a monitor so an extra bit might be worth it if you can afford it.

I was in office depot the other day (before I saw this post) but I happened to look at that moniter, all I can say is the picture on it was really, really bad.. was almost like static... I duno what was up with it, but I don't think I'd buy one after seeing the one at the store...

I think you get what you pay for in the LCD market...
I'm looking for a 17-18 inch myself and don't want to pay a ton... but I want something decent. I came very very close to buying the 18 inch that dell had on sale the other day.. was a good deal, I just didn't want to part with the greens

I have one of the Dell 18" LCDs that go on sale from time to time. You just missed a great price, under $400. I'd hold out for one of those, they'll drop again I'm sure.

looks pretty nice @1280 with DVI off of my Radeon 7500

Hello, I've been looking to buy an LCDs as well--mainly 17". I didn't think of getting one from Dell, I'll go check out their site. Does Dell make good LCDs for gaming with a high refresh rate? That's my main concern.

I've been mainly looking at ViewSonic, since people have told me their LCDs are good for gaming. I especially like this model, however, I looked at the links on their site to buy from a reseller and the prices range from $530 (MicroWarehouse) to the mid-600s! Which is what caused me to do a Google search, leading me here. (Great site, BTW.)

Anyway, I'll have to check out the LCDs at Dell.

Here is a link for a small form factor barebones. But, up in the corner, they have a 17" LCD for $349. It might be better quality than that SVA one.
