UPS suggestions

I've been in the market for a UPS for some time and this one caught my eye.

http://www.computers4sure.com/produc...453847&IID=844

I really like the idea that it'll protect my cable modem /net work from surges. The question is: is this really a worthwhile feature or just a neat sounding novelty. If the price difference between this model and one w/o this feature is small I'd rather err on the side of caution and get this one.

My stuff consists of:

Toshiba pcx2200 cable modem
Netgear RT314 router
Samsung 19' monitor
1600+ AMD proc powered computer
No printers or USB devices of any type save for an MP3 player.

Is this a good deal? Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
ST

That looks like one of the slim models. We haven't had very good luck with those at work, but that one's better than the ones we have. The slim ones just didn't last as long or work as well as the regular sized ones. They worked ok, but prefer the regular sized ones. I've seen some of the regular ones for that price lately. Tigerdirect has some good deals on refuirbed ones (hopefully refurb means they put new batteries in them).

Yes, they protect you from brownouts and surges. Great to have and you can find cheap replacement batteries for most models when they die.

Thanks fosin. That's the kind of answer I was looking for. If the smaller one's don't work so well the I'll try to find one of the bigger one's with protection for my cable modem.

I appreciate it...

I like UPS APCs, and am running a 300VA one that was $10 after rebate.

That one looks like it would work, but one of the reasons I have a UPS is so it'll tell my computer to shut down. Mine has a serial cable to do that; the one in question doesn't appear to do that.

Just something to think about.
